I was surfing around on Youtube yesterday when I came across this game. I didnt even know it was coming out. Wasnt sure if anyone here knew about it so thought I would put out the FYI. Launched in Russia in May 2009. Suppose to launch in North America June 8th but I heard that got pushed back to the 14th or 17th. The website is in Russian but they updated it for the English players recently.

Yes, very excited about this. You can pre-order it at gogamer in the US, and I think it ships on June 17th. SimHQ has a dedicated sub-forum on it as well.

The Russian is taking the PC flight sim by storm.
Having played DCS: Black Shark I can't wait to get my hands on this game.

perhaps this will be a bit more approachable than modern flight sims.

stick 'n rudder, baby.

Another WW1 combat flight sim currently available to consider as well is a CFS3 mod "Over Flanders Fields" (requires patched CFS3 initially to install the mod but can be deleted afterward). Check out the YouTube and developer movies here:

Yeah, I'm glad to see someone making a WW1 sim again too. Its been many years since Red Baron 3D. Heck, I havent had a flightstick since the 1990s. Looking at CH Products website it seems the prices of flight sticks have gone way up than when I last remember them.

Is this the game that is made with the IL-2 engine? Or was that another? I heard a few years ago there was going to be a WW1 flight sim made with IL2 engine.

It says here that it's "built on the newly developed Digital Nature engine".

I read quite sometime ago about a WWI simulation game announced on the IL2 engine called 'The First World War: Knights of the Skies'.

Another FYI: The game has been pushed back another week. June 25th or so now.

Hey everyone,

Due to some unforeseen issues in production of the retail units, the official release of Rise of Flight is delayed a couple more days and won't make the intended June 17th release. We apologize immensely for the delay and want you to know that the delay is NOT related to the actual game code in any way. There were simpy some logistical issues that have held up the initial production run. Everything has been sorted out and production will continue ASAP. The new anticipated release is later this week or early next week.

Many of you have been waiting patiently for Rise of Flight to be released and we appreciate your enthusiasim and support. We believe ROF will be worth the wait.

Again, 777 Studios, the distributor CompuExpert and on behalf of any and all retailers who will be carrying ROF we apologize for the short delay.

SC: Conviction and now another delay for this!

i respect thge beefy system requirements, even the minimum spec machine is an upgrade for many people. the big question in my mind is: can i use my logitech rumblepad, or do i need to buy another POS joystick that will break in a month or less?

I'll be grabbing this one. Dynamix used to be one of my favorite game studios, and I played Red Baron for hundreds of hours, not to mention their earlier WWII titles. That Black Shark sim also looks interesting, if a little intimidating. I love chopper sims and haven't played a good one since Jane's Apache.

DVD arrived today.. no one can play because you need to register and log in to game online just to launch it and the Russian server gerbils must be sleeping.
