Actually, it seems the problems have been happening in all sorts of ways...

For me, I was actually locked out... right when i came back from studying abroad. I knew I didn't pay the fee, so I paid through paypal right away. Within an hour, my cpanel and everything else was back online.

just to update this topic, since there is a link to it in this recent godaddy thread

ripplehost has recently been blacklisted on spamhaus (now apparently resolved) and spamcop (not resolved as of this post), and the admin has not been able to fix it. I don't know if he is unable or unwilling or a combination of the two, but it prevents the majority of my emails from going through. I have been fairly satisfied with ripplehost until now. Previous problems were fixed in short order, but this BL problem is ongoing, and it is a major pain since I have been using ripplehost for email.

Yep, this was the FINAL straw for me. Most of my friends and relatives are on just two different ISPs; BOTH had Ripplehost blocked b/c of a listing on Spamhaus.org.

Ironically, the whole spam thing happened just about three weeks after I paid another $10 to "renew" my account which was still paid up FOR ANOTHER YEAR ALREADY.

A couple of weeks after I changed hosting companies, I went back and checked the "I'm locked out" thread in the Ripplehost forums. Alan had replied "If you feel you are already prepaid, send me proof and I'll unlock/refund your money."

Is it MY JOB to keep records for HIM? I have every email from the past 4 years or so...in there somewhere is my receipt showing I paid up front for two years.

It was just not worth the trouble of digging it up, sending it to him and waiting three weeks for him to get back to me...probably w/another excuse.

The best way to hurt a company is to vote with your wallet and CHANGE SERVICES. I voted with my wallet; screw Ripplehost. You get what you pay for. Caveat Emptor.

okay, i'm a n00b...I have a ripplehost account that I use for email mainly...

now you're telling me that it's "blacklisted?" What exactly does that mean? Not all ISP's will let their users send mail to my account now?

I'm using them for my basic skoorbs site. I don't use them for email. If they are blacklisted anywhere I would immidately stop using them if I was anybody who relies on something like this for email. That's pretty pathetic that ripplehost allowed things to get to this stage.

Blacklisted as in their IPs being listed at Spamhaus.org b/c of excessive spam originating from their server.

When I was hosted at Ripplehost (and you are too, even if just using them for email relay) lots of spam originated from the IP of the server I was using. Though it wasn't me sending it, but someone else that was hosted on the same server. Therefore ANYONE using that server (I.E. that IP address) got blacklisted.

It's not that Alan doesn't know; it's that he does not CARE. He's got your money already and he can always change IPs and start over. That's MHO.

My advice to YOU is find new hosting.

"now you're telling me that it's "blacklisted?" What exactly does that mean? Not all ISP's will let their users send mail to my account now?"

Thats is exactly what it means. I get emails bounced back as undeliverable from aol and other isps, and more that just don't though, and don't even bounce back, which may be related to the domain problem descibed in a thread listed below.

read the recent forums at ripplehost.com

another problem is that the admin failed to renew their domain in a timely fashion
read this thread
http://ripplehost.com/showthre...p?s=&threadid=1327

this could be part of my email problem as well, which is described toward the bottom of this thread
http://forum.spamcop.net/forum...howtopic=2581&st=0

the admin obviously doesn't care or would be on top of the basics. I don't expect hand-holding for $10/yr, but I expect advertised service, including the ability to email.

I think I will switch to hostpc, a little more, with different features, but their help forums are active with actual responses to problems users are having.

If the BL problem is "ongoing", the real problem is that spam is still flowing then. Spamcop's RBL is based off of a time/score system, where a machine needs to stay clean(i.e. not have any reports made against it) while its score burns away over a certain period of time(under a week, I believe). If Spamcop still has them blocked, then it's still getting reports from users.
