Ripping speed in iTunes...

I wonder if anyone has encountered something like this...When I rip cds in iTunes, the first song rips at like 6x, and by the last song it gradually speeds up to around 24x. And when I convert songs from MP3 to AAC it does 24x steady. Anyone know if there's a way to get my DVD-ROM to run full speed from the start? I'm running an ASUS E616-A, and I have a sneaking suspicion its the Quietrack feature that is slowing it down...any ideas?

Apple products can do no wrong, this is obviously the optimal speed. Do not question them again, this is your warning.

Have you witnessed the same behavior in other ripping programs? I would recommend something like Exact Audio Copy for ripping versus iTunes.

Do you have autoplay disabled? Your ripping speed will obviously be affected if the CD is being "autoplayed" when itunes is trying to rip it.

It's not so much that the speed is limited, just that it isn't full speed straight from the start. I noticed today that my dvd rom is loud as @#!% at full blast, another sign it's the so-called Quietrack limiting it.
