ripping DVDs?

I'm working on a group project where we are discussing a movie and its philosophical meanings. For the presentation we need to show some clips. I would like to rip the DVD onto my comp and then edit it so I can have a bunch of short clips. What are some programs that would allow me to do this? Thanks.

Are you just needing something to rip it, or an editor also? i use dvd decrypter to rip and dvd shrink to back up my movies.

TMPGEnc offers a free 30day trial on their dvd authoring software. You can use that software to cut clips (with no re-encoding) after you get the dvd copied to the harddrive. Just rename the .vob files to .mpg from the dvd directory so you can import them into DVD Author. link

EDIT - or I bet you could also use their trial versions of mpeg editors, though I don't think they can edit mpeg2 files. I don't know, haven't needed to try it out ever.

I use DVDAuthor. Does a good job and it's pretty easy to use. You don't have to rename the VOB files, you can import them as is.
