Ripping DVD to DiVx

How long does it usually takes to rip a DVD? What is LBA? I'm using MpEg2AVi to rip it.

Are there any sites where I can refer to as I'm planning to rip the DVD to VCD format. How good is Divx? Like DVD quality?

like an hour or so to transfer the data to the HDD.

and several hours to re-encode

Why would this be locked? It gets hard to count the number of threads pertaining to "making backup CDs" and which CD burners can get past copy protection, this should be no different. Pillage, it is not illegal unless you distribute the movies you encode or try selling them out of a van on the street 🙂

Doubtful. Seeing as how Tom's and TechTv's Screensavers have both posted how-to guides on their sites, a discussion in this forum seems perfectly appropriate. I'm getting a dvd drive for christmas, and you better believe I'll be trying Divx ripping as soon as it's installed. I could care less about pirating movies, I just want to check out mpeg-4 for myself. 🙂

I'vetried encoding the movies and it sucked. I mean the picture is tearing and I think the compression I used is wrong. Does anybody have a program which is easy and simplified to use? I've spent 3 hours reading a bunch of stuffs and trying them but to no avail.

takes me 10-15mins to rip the DVD then 5+ hours to encode, all depends on quality and resolution.
