My family is originally from England, and in 1990 we moved to the California so that my dad could work on Ulysses. It was a joint project between JPL and ESA (European Space Agency) that was only supposed to last for a few years. 18 years later the project has finally come to an end. By strictly managing the amount of fuel used, and only using individual instruments one at a time, the spacecraft has been able to far outlast any expectations.

Although it's great to know how well the project has done, it really hits home because it means my dad will be without a job. Both myself and my younger sister are here on green cards as neither of us are American citizens. My younger brother and youngest sister were both born in the US so they are citizens. My parents on the other hand are still here on visas which will expire when the project is officially over. Makes me sad to think my family might move overseas. I'm in college now so I won't really be effected by the move, but it still really sucks.

I've pretty much grown up like any other American kid. I've gone to American schools since I was about 3, but on paper I'm just another immigrant. I have no idea what's going to happen with my parents...whether they'll be able to stay or not. I don't even know whether they want to stay or not. Man...uncertainty sucks :/.

I didn't know Ulysses was still working.:Q

Chin up man, change is a part of life. I am curious as to what your dad's plans are now though. It's not like he couldn't stay in the US if he wanted.

I must say that I loved England when I was there. I bet you would too if you had to.

To be honest I'm not entirely sure. The question is if they want to stay in the US or not. Maybe they want to move back? I think a lot of it has to do with where my dad can get a job and since he's employed by ESA, chances are it will be a lot easier to find a new job working back in England.
