Hopefully you made the jump to kitty heaven!

I just came back from my parents place. I was getting my bed out of my old room and found him laying beside it. He had only been there for no more than a day. I had him for over 6 years. Two of which we shared that little studio and spent all days off and every night together.

:'(

6 1/2. He apparently came in last night with no issues. Completely healthy cat. Almost always you have a warning when a cat is going to die (secluded behavior, anger, etc.) but he showed no signs. It just happened. That's what baffles me the most.

He was pretty active but also low key and not a stressed cat. Very laid back.
 
Yeah, this is a common problem among cats I think...my cat of 2 years just croaked one day for no reason...totally sucks.

Either way, RIP Sniper!
 
Only thing I can think of is maybe it got suffocated from your flatulence in the room?

But seriously, most indoor only cats that are well taken care of without medical issues can live 20 to 30 years or more.

Over 30 years? Somehow I find that hard to believe.
 
As a kid we did adopt an 11 year old cat. He lived to be 23 and was an OUTDOOR cat, so it's possible I think. Never heard of an older cat tbh.

By that time his teeth were almost gone and his fur was 1/2 gone. He lived well past his prime. He was fine until his last year or so. Still jumping and playing.

Basically, the age at which cats live is vastly different if they are indoor versus outdoor. A well taken care of indoor cats can all easily live past 20, with many going past 30 now. It's a fairly new thing as it had been previously thought cats only lived to about 20. But that was an old measurement using pet cats that were outdoor or mixed indoor/outdoor cats.

I think the record is that 38 year old, but I believe that the current oldest cat is Red the maincoon and is about that age as well.
 
My wife had a cat that lived to be about 24. His name was Bob and when he was put down (all his organs were shutting down) her younger brother took him. He was 22 at the time. He said I.. didn't feel right, Bob was older then me!

Edit - Sorry for your loss, losing a pet is always painful. I hear a lot of stories about animals that "seem" fine that get themselves back to their owners before passing away.

Thanks everyone. It was too sudden for me to grasp. I'm still thinking about how this happened... We were planning to plant a tree at my parents, so I guess that's going to be his grave. He'll be remembered for much longer than he lived.

As you can tell, he actually treated his only living offspring like it was his kid. He bathed her all the time, snuggled up, and looked after her. I let the other cats look at Sniper before he was wrapped up. Dotty (his daughter) and Itsy (Dotty's mom) looked at him for a long while. Itsy was even growling at everyone around. You can tell cats truly do have feelings for each other as the other two cats who weren't close looked like they couldn't have cared less.

Dang, that's sad.
Hopefully he went peacefully.

Keep at it buddy, love those ones that are left extra for him. Cats are so awesome.
 
I really do love cats. sorry for your loss. Lost our family cat in January this year, was tragic for me.

And you should. Typically i don't take pets for granted because I know they all die someday soon, but this cat I thought I'd have into his 20's.

As for the Hitler kitty, true. Hitler would probably have a goatee in 2010.

Sorry about your loss. We had to put our cat down last month. We had him for just a little over twelve years.
