Why the hell would she not have an insurance plan to cover that? She's a friggin athlete for Christ sake! How irresponsible.

It's in the article itself. She has insurance, the claim hasn't been submitted and/or settled yet, which means this 550k estimate was def premature.

I mean, really, what kind of insurance company reimburses you immediately for major expenses like this?

I don't know about Canuckistan but in the US the debt dies with the debtor as well, to use a slightly inappropriate term.

(Of course I mean that once the estate is settled the decedents have no legal responsibility to pay the deceased's debts, not that the debt is expunged immediately upon death.)

Serious question for the canucksus amongst us....what does happen when you are traveling in another country and you get injured and need medical attention? Do you have to pick up a vacation rider to cover your costs?

🙁 That sucks. Someone mentioned earlier she actually stuck the trick, but fell afterwards? Was she on the pipe's wall when she fell awkwardly or doing another trick? It's hard to imagine she was seriously hurt from falling on level ground, assuming she was wearing a helmet.

I asked my formerly canuck coworker about this once. He said they would purchase travel insurance (rider). Something more substantial than the policies you'd buy through an airline or something like that though.

It is recommended. Some Coverage is still given, but it is limited to certain things.

Yeah for basic vacation medical coverage most employers have something that will pay for medical costs outside Canada, otherwise a Canadian just pays for travel insurance which is stupid cheap (not certain, but last I remember was like $25 for the last week we had the in USA).

However for someone working in the US or there for longer not sure how it's covered.

I think she landed it on the wall as normal, then like caught an edge at high speed which was like a whiplash effect and slammed her down. I think it was more the motion of the hit then the impact. Happened right at the bottom of the pipe.

I remember a story a while back about how those $25 insurance policies for travel have a lot of asterisks attached to them. As long as you know what you're getting...

Yeah need to be careful, but as long as you check.

My neice had a bad allergic reaction at Medieval Times and had to get an Ambulance ride and a Dr. visit which was covered with no issues, no problems.
