RIP Pepper Mint... April 1994 - March 2014

A sad day in the household. My fiancee's cat Pepper Mint aka "Baby Girl" died last night.

The worst part is that she was hit by a car. She would have been 20 next month. She always avoided cars quite well, and we had never seen her near, let alone crossing the street. We think she may have been disoriented or something. This isn't how she was supposed to die, not after living so long. Really sucks. She was old and slow, so just knowing that someone must have not seen her or not stopped is just awful.

Anyway just wanted to vent a little..

Awww man, that is so sad. I am very sorry for your loss. Please, please keep cats indoors, they are safer, healthier and live longer lives.
 
So sorry to hear. 🙁 20 years is pretty good for an outside cat, but still really sad to go that way. My cat almost slipped outside a few times, makes me nervous as hell when that happens. People drive like maniacs on my street, she would not last a day.
 
I've never had a fluffy animal as pet, but if I had one for twenty years and lost it in such a manner, I would be crying like a bitch.

For some reason her long life isn't making it any better, even though it probably should. She seemed to be in OK health and good spirits overall. We'll never know how long she would have lived now, and that's really tough. 🙁

I agree overall on the keeping them indoors. She was indoor/outdoor most of her life, just depended on the living situation. We tended to keep her indoors until the last year or so, when she was showing a bit of incontinence in her old age.

We had been expecting her to go for years now.. which you would think would make it easier. It's strange how the circumstances change things so much. The way it happened didn't offer an opportunity to say goodbye, which certainly could have happened with a 'natural death' as well, but one can hope for such a thing at least. Tough all around.. 🙁
 
That sucks. My condolences.

My cat is a hand-fed baby...we got her at 2 days old. I'm the only momma she's ever known.
She's almost 18 and is now totally house-bound. She used to have access to our back yard with 6' fences that she couldn't scale...not anymore.
When she finally goes, I'll be crying like a little girl.
 
Well, probably still better than the eventual wasting death.
We aren't made to die of old age.

Yeah, but after so long, and knowing she was still happy and active overall.. It doesn't help.

The business is doing well and we're less than a year from buying our first property. We were really hoping she could die on our farm and be buried there, but no such luck.

So instead, I am having a 45lb river rock engraved, that we can take with us wherever we go.

I'm sorry for your loss, Eli.

My cat has been my friend and companion for the past 15 years now. She's kept me sane in times of depression. I don't know what I'll do when she's gone.
