I haven't had tv >25yr, but I thought mtv(music) had died long ago.

It was kind of cool in the 80s, but I'm not convinced musical artistry benefited from it. The best videos extended the musical form with filmography, but I think it was largely a distraction from making good sounds.
 
Yeah, that's a damn shame lol.The video thing was pretty cool at the time it started (1981). I liked some of the experimentation in the early 80's with advances in electronic instruments - drum machines and keyboards.

Towards the end of the 80's, I like some of the bands inspired by punk, but could actually play their instruments. Like Elvis Costello, and The Pretenders.
 
I was a kid of the 80s and 90s. I remember the days of staying up late for headbangers ball on saturday and 120 minutes on sunday.
Before the real world and road rules trash ruined mtv.

While simultaneously ruining music, by making it all about image, instead of music.

Also amazing how many has-beens from early 70's rock bands came back as solo artists because they didn't have enough videos to fill the air time. And even though the music sucked they cashed in anyways.

I have what they call MTV Live in my channel lineup. It basically regurgitates the same shows over and over in between blocks of music videos. The shows are usually either live concerts or unplugged or half-hour promos for newish music artists. I guess this means that channel is going away.
 
I used to like mtv as background noise. I kind of miss just for that reason. Of course there's always the weather channel, cspan, etc. but it was nicer having some music. Shrug. C'est la mort.
