Nessun Dorma was his favorite piece to perform.
Here he is performing it at the Torino Olympics.
(Please let's not turn this into a Paul Potts thread.)

From what I've heard, his condition has been deteriorating for the past few years. I did get a chance to see him once when I was studying in Paris- it was incredible.

Yes, he had cancer. He was extremely active in charity and fund raising lately. He still had an unbelievable charisma but of course his voice suffered from his sickness.

When he was young he was simply stunning. His voice will really live forever in his innumerable recordings, and in the memories of those who were lucky enough to catch him live.

This is a very very sad day for music lovers.

R.I.P.

🙁 This recording is one of my favorite cd's. What I would give to have seen him live in the 70's or early 80's. The second act of that recording brings tears to my eyes, sometimes.

No 70 year old on earth could or probably ever will sing as well as he does there.

Hearing him in his prime is truly awesome, thrills you down to the soul.

QFT.
I think that was his last public performance. I may be wrong though.
