RIP Layne Staley

I didn't see any threads about this here today, so screw it. I know it's late and I debated because he will most likely get flamed (ATOT style "good riddance") for the way he went out.

Just wanted to say that 5 years ago today is when Layne Staley died of a drug overdose, a lethal injection of heroin / cocaine known as "speedball". He was dead for a couple weeks before anyone found him and never really talked to anyone much in the time leading up to his death. He had a messed up life and on top of that lost his soulmate to a disease.

Aside from all that, he was a great singer and probably one of the best to come out of the grunge era. Alice In Chains would have never been without Layne.

RIP man.

RIP.

AIC was my favorite band. It's funny, the band really died about 5 years BEFORE he died, so it's about a decade since AIC last put something new out. Le sigh.

Here's the thing, my MOM even likes some songs off of Jar of Flies (well, Don't Follow anyway). That song always reminds me of leaving my childhood apartment at around 12 years old (almost 13) and moving to another town. I think that song was playing as we moved the last of our stuff out of the apartment. Almost exactly a decade later Don't Follow was playing again as I moved the last of my stuff out of my house and into the apartment I know reside in. And later this summer, almost exactly 3 years later, I'll hopefully be listening to it again as I move to boston out of my apt.

I had planned to go in December of 1993, but it was a weeknight. "They'll be back on the next tour", I said. And then "it" happened and I never got to see them. 🙁
