RIP Layla (feline)

This week we put Layla down after she stopped eating and was diagnosed with lymphoma. End stage lymphoma in cats is horrific and we wouldn't put her through that. We adopted Layla four years ago along with her son, Ming. When we adopted her, we thought Layla was another little black kitty. We figured out later that she is a pure bred Burmese. Ming is slightly retarded and we think they were breeder dumps. Anyway, she was a happy, energetic, very affectionate kitty right up until this week when she crashed. She was about eleven years old.

Ming is lost without her. They've never been apart.

Sorry to hear. I lost my 18 year old cat a bit over a year ago now. The first few months were brutal.

I got 2 cats now, black one and orange one. They keep me entertained that's for sure. Two is fun and they keep each other company. I feel less bad too, my old cat was alone all the time because I work.

It's tough losing a cat. I had a "wild-adept" cat.

The mom sure looks a scowler while her son more innocent.

Nice kitties, but are you sure about the Burmese thing? Look more like Bombay...I've never seen a black Burmese; usually brown or gray.

Bombays are a mix of sable Burmese & black American shorthair cats. The American Bombay came out of Louisville, Kentucky in 1958 from cat breeder Nikki Horner. She called them Bombay because they resemble black leopards from Bombay, India. There's also a British Bombay, which is a cross between a Burmese & black domestic British shorthair, which came out in the 1960's. The American ones usually have copper eyes & the British ones usually have green eyes. Two of the key differences between a black Burmese & Bombay are the fur (Bombays are shiny like a jaguar vs. Burmese, which are more furry-fuzzy like a traditional short-haired cat) & Bombays are jacked (the glossy fur highlights their muscles).
