We put Impy down today as he crashed due to renal failure. He was an eighteen year old traditional apple-head Siamese and lived with us for almost sixteen years.
We trapped Impy when he about two years old. His leg had been half ripped off by a dog or coyote and was badly infected. After getting patched up, he lived in our laundry room for two weeks to give his wounds time to heal. I spent a couple hours a day with him as he was already bonding with me and he suffered lifelong abandonment anxiety and confinement anxiety. He ended up bonding with me so tightly that he would mope the entire time I was away whenever I had to leave on travel and he would start howling if I got home too late from work.
Impy fresh back from the vet after we trapped him.
I could never figure out why anyone would throw him away as he was a total snugglebug and had the Siamese desire to ride on my back or shoulder. He also had the Siamese talkiness.
Impy when he could still see a bit.
Living as a stray, his vision was damaged by taurine deficiency to the point that he was blind most of his life. That didn't stop him from being a jock and he loved playing ball games as long as the balls made noise.
Impy in good health. He was a big, strong kitty weighing in at fourteen pounds.
Impy got along well with most of the other cats and ended up taking the top cat position when Midnight Louis died.
Impy with best bud, Leon.
He was also a very bad kitty, destroying most of the furniture that could be destroyed and spraying an electrical outlet, resulting in singed butt hair for him and a new outlet for the wall.
Impy out for a walk in his harness. Since he was blind, we would take him out in the backyard to let him smell stuff.
A little over a year ago Impy started showing signs of renal failure. Giving him subdermal fluids a couple times a week kept him going until now. He was by far my favorite kitty.
