My OG thread from 2008: (18 years ago, oof!)
The last thread here ran from 2013 to 2022:

Basic history:
* 2005: Apple announced the transition to Intel x86 CPU's
* 2005: The OSx86 Project was launched with the first successful boots on commodity x86 hardware
* 2006: MacRumors & InsanelyMac forum members got Windows working on Intel Macs; Apple later released Boot Camp, making dual-boot support official
* 2026: Apple official ends x85 support in the upcoming MacOS 27 release
Was very grateful to all involved in that project:
1. Saved a TON of money while I was in college! (couldn't quite swing the $10k Mac Pro fee on minimum wage, haha!)
2. Was able to do awesome stuff like video editing at home!
3. Learned a LOT about operating systems!
We retired our last Hackintosh a few years ago. My wife switched to a screamingly-fast M-series Macbook. I went to Windows 11 (Apple had neglected FCP & whatnot for so long due to the iPhone focus that I jumped to Premier lol). Good memories!

OpenCore and Hackintosh are sadly dead after Apple ends Intel Mac support.
Apple's decision to make macOS Tahoe the last version to support Intel Macs is going to cause enormous problems for OpenCore and Hackintosh users. The communities are taking the news quite well.
