Yeah, pretty much like Twin Peaks. Now that completely blows my mind. I had to google it. Sure looked and felt totally PNW.

Maybe because Kyle Maclachlan was in it and he was from Spokane.Yeah, pretty much like Twin Peaks.
Did you just say the 80s Dune movie was bad?I always appreciated David Lynch but his version of Dune is not just bad, but outright destroys the source literature. It gets the entire theme of the book entirely backwards. Dune is a cautionary tale against heroes and the movie is basically like 'look how awesome our hero is'. Artistic direction was great though. (Dune is my favorite book of all time so that movie gives me nerd rage)
Regardless, he was a unique filmmaker and he changed TV and film forever for the better. RIP.
Well, about that... you're not wrong. Now that completely blows my mind. I had to google it. Sure looked and felt totally PNW.

I don't care about the book and everything I've heard about it makes me think it's not my sort of book (and friends who know my tastes and enjoy the book agree).

Right, been there, it's pretty cool.
Only thing is, we were discussing Blue Velvet and the mythical town of Lumberton. In North Carolina.
I 100% said 80’s Dune is bad. Great artistic direction, good actors, shit everything else.Did you just say the 80s Dune movie was bad?

Apparently, the R&R Cafe in North Bend is where there's an annual Twins Peaks get together (cafe was in the Twin Peaks series) sometime in February. Going to be a big one this year.Did you just say the 80s Dune movie was bad?

I had their cherry pie (and a black coffee of course) when I was out there late 2023… it was actually “damn good” at least by my standards.Apparently, the R&R Cafe in North Bend is where there's an annual Twins Peaks get together (cafe was in the Twin Peaks series) sometime in February. And don't forget the part with the cat! Always cracks me up.I always appreciated David Lynch but his version of Dune is not just bad, but outright destroys the source literature. What do you guys feel is the best of David Lynch's work if you were to recommend him to someone?
I've watched Dune '84 and Mulholland Drive. Since watching Dune 2000 and reading the books, I can't bring myself to watch Dune '84 any more, and Mulholland Drive was engaging until the drugs kicked in... except I wasn't taking any.
Yakima. He went to high school with my cousins at Ike.Maybe because Kyle Maclachlan was in it and he was from Spokane.
He is so fucking suave.I occasionally replay "Blue Velvet" for those choice Dennis Hopper "Frank Booth" script lines.
I particularly relish the scene with Dean Stockwell -- "Ben" -- lip-synching Roy Orbison's "In Dreams" with a drop-lamp as a microphone.
Memories get cloudier the older you get.Yakima. He went to high school with my cousins at Ike.
Yea, halfway through the book, they have yet to actually meet the Fremen. Boy, I either actually didn't read the book or I forgot 90%, definitely conflated first Dune movie with the actual book. Entertainment wise, I still like Lynch's version better. Still like Dave's space gilders look that he made from whole cloth.Memories get cloudier the older you get.
