RIP burrowing owl

I've been watching a family of burrowing owls living near my office for the last four years. This year, there was only a single male living in the burrow. I last saw him on Wednesday. Today, the burrow was gone, someone, maybe the property owner, maybe the utility company, had filled it in. I hope he got out but I suspect he retreated into the burrow when people came close. I took these pics last week.

I firmly believe that the owl is still happily alive and doing fun stuff with other owls.

Sucks. There was an area downtown where two buildings were 1 cinder block width appart from each other and the foundation was not filled in, so basically a big hole of doom. There was a bunch of kittens living in there and people were bringing them food. Possibly a bad idea as they probably felt ok there given they always got food, and just never bothered to come out.

One day, it was all filled in. I hope they actually checked to make sure the kittens were not in there.... but somehow I doubt it. Long story short, when I lost my cat that was a spot someone told us that they think ours was maybe at since the mother kinda looked like mine but it was hard to tell, so we went to check it out. Then we felt bad and kept going to check on them.

If they did not notify US Fish and Wildlife Services of the fact that it was a Burrowing Owl nest and they disturbed it there would be a large fine and possibly a reward for the tip.

Fight for the environment and our wildlife! Call USFWS and blow the whistle on whoever harmed that bird!

Yep. It'd be considered a "take" if they destroyed the habitat w/o permits. Before any ground disturbance, pre-construction surveys should've taken place to identify and mitigate any impacts.
