Riots in Tunisia/Egypt due to have's vs have nots. USA's turn soon?

In the US we don't have to pick up guns like some children fantasize. We get to VOTE and have a voice in our government. Things may get out of hand with demonstrations if something bad happens but the people have clearly shown here in the US we would rather run to totalitarianism than to anarchy....

Dont let me get in the way of your fantasies....

Dont get me wrong the debt is a big problem...

I am having a hard time imagining a revolution in a country where the hardest struggle for most people, especially the poor, is to not eat too much.

We get to pick one of two candidates selected by the Big Two political parties. Our Democracy is an illusion.

That said, I'm agreeing with Sensamp. Poverty is relative. Compared to Tunisia poverty here is virtually non existent.

I don't think getting premium or regular cable is going to be the deciding point for revolution.

We do get to vote. Unfortunately both parties are leading us down the wrong path.

When fossil fuels are sky high, farmers unable to farm because it gets cost prohibitive, food strikes. Then yes, it can happen.

When people are hungry and have no food, you know how it's going to end.

Yet its meaningless when the "poorest" of the "poor" have it better off than 99.9% of the world.

Relative poverty is very real.

Historically when the gini index crosses 60 is when rebellion starts.

The US is at 51, an all time high, and rising.

Especially if the typical fatass can't have their 5th bacon double cheeseburger for breakfast that day. Revolt! That is if they can get up off the couch.

Armed gangs free Muslim militants in Egypt

CAIRO – Gangs of armed men attacked at least four jails across Egypt before dawn Sunday, helping to free hundreds of Muslim militants and thousands of other inmates as police vanished from the streets of Cairo and other cities.

The U.S. Embassy in Cairo told its citizens in Egypt to consider leaving the country as soon as possible, and said it had authorized the voluntary departure of dependents and non-emergency employees, a display of Washington's escalating concern about the stability of its closest Arab ally.

The army sent hundreds more troops and armored vehicles onto the streets of Cairo and other cities but appeared to be taking little action against gangs of young men with guns and large sticks who were smashing cars and robbing people.

Anyone ready to fight another war? The country appears to be rapidly deteriorating.

Too many drugs (both legal and illegal) and lack of education will prevent any such rioting here. Even IF these dumb druggies could kick their habits the tea baggers will have a tea party of their own, and dump prozac into your drinking water.

Is this a common opinion? Is there a group of people who think that prozac is being dumped into the water supply?

You're right. But remember, the American people are the ones voting these guys in so at least on the surface, they're in agreement with the campaign pledges these guys are making. The American people are just as guilty, and perhaps even moreso, than the people they're placing in office.

No one will ever vote for the realistic candidate who says "We're in deep trouble. We're going to need to massively cut spending on defense and other areas, along with slashing entitlement benefits and increasing the age at which you're eligible to receive them. And by the way, we're going to have to increase taxes on everyone too." And even if Obama and all of Congress decided tomorrow that they had to take these steps, they'll all be voted out over the next couple of elections and we're back to square one.

It might be a cliche at this point in P&N, but I do think the average American will be happy as long as they have their American Idol and cheap fast food. People here can laugh and call these people "dumb," but I've seen a lot of allegedly educated people who fall into this category as well.

Most of this is being fueled by Al Qaeda and its affiliates such as the Muslim Brotherhood.

Its pretty simple actually. Instead of attacking targets in the US it is far more effective (and easier) to impact the US economically by overthrowing these countries.
stupidest post ever.

Nothing like this will happen in the US anytime soon. Riots? sure, but not revolutions. Burnt cars, some dead, and that's it. I mean, look at the territory and the huge army you have. There's no way it could spread to everywhere.

Lots of looting going on it seems as well. They're even smashing up the Cairo museum and damaging ancient Egyptian artifacts. I guess some are taking advantage of the "revolution" going on?

Ahhhh k, your part of that category too, makes sense
Moves Nicks card over a couple of boxes.

What do YOU think will happen when our national debt increases by 36% in just 4 years? Anything bad? You really dont think that is going to have dramatic consequences?

Go ahead, put your head back in the sand and pretend your hero Obama is saving you, I dont give a fuck. I'll put your card in that box.

The average American doesn't have the independent ability to reason themselves into revolt, they just do what they're told or manipulated into believing.

Revolutions are most often started or pushed along by the academics, and intelligent oppressed people.

but you are assuming the average joe won't wake up one day. I think Egyptians are like that until the Tunisia thing woke them up. So I believe if the rich v poor disparity is so wide in this country, and the poor has nothing to loose then it could happen if some particular event sparks it.

I don't think any revolutions are going to happen in the US anywhere in the near future.
When you discuss these thoughts of yours with the real life people in your world, your parents for instance. What do they say?

Obama is not my hero, I don't think he's going to save me from anything.

Link to where I said revolution?

I feel inflation is going to get much worse, I think that foreign lenders will soon stop lending to us. I think when that happens we are fucked. Either we will go without the money, or print off more which will lead to hyperinflation. This is a highly likely scenario. Would you keep lending to someone who is going further into debt so fast it makes their head spin? Probably not, and neither will China eventually.

I've talked to several people about our looming financial crisis, lots of people share my views. Certainly nobody looks at me like I am crazy, why should they? Its completely plausible, especially with these new revised deficits for 2011 and the projections by 2015. Its damn near terrifying. 22 trillion! Fucking 22 by 2015.

Go ahead and think I'm crazy. I dont give a shit. But if you really dont think this cant happen here, that hyperinflation wont lead to riots, then you are the crazy one.

Ya ok riots.
I suppose if the righties get their way and welfare is cut, and people are left to die in the streets instead if getting medical attention. There is going to be riots
But I still believe there is good in America and that won't happen.
