I just recieved a Rio:Volt for christmas- Is it simply a(as my father- the purchaser refers to it) "Super-Duper CD player?"

Apperently my dad thought he was buying me an MP3 player but got me and MP3/CD player instead... I haven't reterned it yet, but am thinking of doing so (my dad was a little miffed by what he thinks is "deceptive wording" on the package, so he's all for it :))...

My question is whether this thing is worth having; Is it useful? Fragile? Cantakerous and/or difficult to use? Any feedback is greatly appreciated,
Thanks all.

Well, I have one and it's working great. One thing to note is that you have to have a CD-RW to burn mp3-loaded CDs so that you can play your favorite songs with it. BTW, which version did you get? (There are 3 versions)

Hint: Go to SonicBlue's web site and flash the latest firmware for your Rio.

Thanks, it seems I've got the SP100... Have you got any further gripes or comments or anything?
BTW, I've got a CDRW, so I'm set in that aspect at least :D

It IS a mp3 player, it just uses CDs instead of Flash media.

I say keep it, RioVolts are probably the best CD/Mp3 players out there.

I have the RioVolt SP250, and I love it, on the average i can get 200+ songs onto one cd :). I put it on shuffle and it lasts me the whole day, when u get tired of the cd its got a built in radio. I would keep it, cds are alot better than compact flash they can hold way more songs and its not that fragile its been bounced around and dropped. Alls you need is a nice pair of headphones. Any cd burner drive will work you can use either cd-rs or cd-rws I prefer the cd-rws for the obvious reason.

The Rio Volt rocks. I also have the SP100 and didn't even consider a memory-stick type of MP3 player as they are just too much hassle with having to reload the memory sticks and don't hold enough music. The only other type I'd even consider over an MP3/CD player is one with the 6 gig HD or something, which would probably be preferrable to the CD type, but they cost a lot more also.

Yeah, that's what it was assumed to be (boy was my father pissed :))... Guess I'll try it out,

I have the same one you have. For the first few months that I had it, I loved it. It was pretty heavy though...with the 2AA batteries and everything. Just remember to flash the firmware, and you should be good to go. I don't really use it much because my remote's broken...I think the rain messed it up. But have fun...it's a great MP3/CD player.
