Rio Volt not working :|

My Rio Volt stopped working after upgrading the latest firmware. Well, I was able to play a few songs and then the batteries went off. So, I changed them and when I turn the Rio Volt now, it doesn't show loading firmware 2.00 as usual. I have tried contacting Rio but it couldn't speak to one of the technicians. 🙁
Any help from other Rio users? Thanks.

I have one. upgraded to firmware 2.00 working great.
only thing i can think of is check the cd with the firmware, compare firmware file to one on hard drive, re-download. re-update firmware.
try runningg it from AC plug.

edit: thats it! im buying a new keyboard!

I have a friend who had a similar problem with a previous update. If you were only able to play a few songs after the update, your batteries were already low during the flash, and the unit may have powered of prematurely. So yeah, see above. 😉 I just installed 2.0 the other day myself and I love it.

Thanks guys, but the problem is...... when I re-download the file and re-upgrade the firmware, the unit won't spin the CD and therefore, I cannot re-install the firmware update. And no, plugging it into the AC adapter doesn't help at all.

I remember reading somewhere that you need to make sure that your batteries were fully charged and that there would be no chance of them going out while you were updating firmware. If you didn't, then you might end up with a dead unit or non functional one at least..

I would try a few more times, then see if you can get it exchagned for the same model or call the company up. Good luck..

You should always flash your Rio Volt with it plugged in to AC power! I always keep fresh NiMH cells in mine, but I'm paranoid and don't take any chances. Most likely, you'll have to have it reflashed by the factory or replaced. I bet you won't try that again 🙂

well contact technical support and get them to re-flash it. i think they will get you a new unit and send yours to be fixed in the factory in taiwan/korea (dont rememner where they make them).
you will probably have to pay the shipping, hope its covered in warranty. and as i and pabster said, always upgrade from AC adapter, and i think no one who read this thread is going to try that again...

Anyone having any problems flashing? I d/led the new 2.00 firmware but my Rio won't update. I've burned it on a CD-RW and a plain CD-R but with both in the rio just loads the 1.13 firmware like normal then says no disk. I used Nero (5 or 5.5 not sure) with my Plextor 16x. Anyone have suggestions?

I had the same problem ... flashed it to 2.00, played a few songs, and then the unit refused to spin up the CD (i would still get the v2.0 loading screen).
I opened and closed the lid several times, exchanged CDs and wham bam ... it started working again.

Go figure. 😕:Q
