I believe SONY is not into mp3s and HARD1000 doesn't read mp3 not to mentiom mp3 navigation. There's another product in the market Terratec m3po which seems to have the same functionality that the Rio Central has minus networking. I found it for $389. Does anybody know anything about this beast?

big difference between that m3po unit and the rio central is the lack of a built in hard drive. this is easily rectified for another $100 but why don't they include this??

for that money (actually a good bit less) i'd rather get an Audiotron. this is just an expensive cd/mp3 player with the ability to suck music off onto a user-added hard drive. no network either. pretty lame product if you ask me.

edit: looked at their website some more and thought about the product some more and realized how ULTRA lame it really is. to get my mp3s with the artist name/album/song name/genre listed, i have to rip my audio cds using something on my computer which interfaces to CDDB, load those mp3s onto a SPARE hard drive i just happen to have around, and then install that hd into the unit. to load new mp3s onto the device, i have to open it up, install it in my computer, etc etc. WHAT A HASSLE!!

but its interesting to see how many of these products are coming to the market lately...

Terratec m3po might be pretty lame against the rio but the issue remains open, that is: is there an inexpensive cd/hd/ethernet mp3 player? Personallly, I need cd more than hd/ethernet as i don't want my computer always on and my stereo somewhat independent of the computer, so cds suit me just fine. of course, one might suggest a dvd/mp3 player but these machines are pretty lame themselves as they have primitive navigation abilities.
It's clear that the market needs a machine of that kind however no big manufacturer stepped in and I wonder why.

I'm almost thinking of getting an Audiotron since I have a server that is always on anyway. But if you want a HD solution, I was able to (on paper) put together a system for less than $500, using one of those new Shuttle aluminum cube cases, and a Soubdblaster Audigy with LiveDrive.
