I wanted to buy this Rio Player at Mobshop but didn't want to pay $99. I phoned customer service and asked if i could buy it for $101 but they refused. See...in addition to the $50 rebate I could have got an extra $25 off for using Visa. Also by going through clickpoint I would have got another $10 off...making this player a mere $15!!!!!!!! ^&&@$^&^@%^&!@*$% and shipping is free at Mobshop.

Perhaps they'll put another lot up soon. Heck maybe if 30 of you email them with the same message we can buy a lot for $100.99 now that would be great! Or they could put their minimum price for a new lot at just over $100 which would suit them as well as everyone wanting a $15 mp3 player.

Okay what the hell here's the deal everyone who is interested in this deal simply cut and paste the following and email it to service@mobshop.com with the subject line: Diamond Rio Pnp300 offer. and add your own name at the end.

Please refer to CSR manager.

To whom it may concern:

I am one of many people interested in purchasing the Diamond Rio PNP300 Mp3 player that you have on a buy cycle for $99.95. However we only want to purchase this item if we can take advantage of the $25.00 visa rebate that is currently offered. We have noticed that your minimum order for the price $103 is 26 orders. Our proposal is for you to offer another buy cycle with a minimum price of just over $100. in this way we can take advantage of the $25.00 off $100 single item purchase rebate that Visa has offered. This will benefit Mobshop as well as you will be selling an additional lot of merchandise at a higher price. Also you will be gaining some very happy and valuable customers to your database. I am confident that you will get well in excess of 26 emails which will confirm the demand for this player at the above mentioned price.

Your sincerely
Your name!

Heck its worth a shot!

And by the way, it's hardly in their interests to increase the price to allow people to be advantaged by the rebates. Mobshop pays out something to Pointclick and Visa, I'm sure. I suspect they're very confident that people will be interested in the player at $50, so they don't have to pay out on the additional rebates.

zygon,
Even though you place your order at higher price, if the cycle reaches enough buyer, the final price will drop to the lowest.

You guys may want to think this over...

Diamond has a reputation for taking a long time (ie. never :)) sending out rebates....

I sent my rebate out in November of last year. I received it last week after numerous phone calls.

Got a response from Mobshopp, whatever this may mean...

Thank you for your interest in the MobShop Network(SM). When you
request
a cycle, we forward your request to the appropriate Supplier
Manager.
Sending a cycle request email does not commit you to purchasing
the
product. Sometimes, when a cycle closes, there may be a brief
period of
time before the next cycle begins.

Please feel free to check the Buy-Cycle(SM) again later. Items
will not
cycle again automatically if supply is not available. However,
if we
determine at a later date that there is adequate inventory
available,
then we will initiate a cycle for that product and try to notify
you
when this occurs. Thanks again!

Sincerely,

P Phil A

Magisterludi, It is in the interest of Mobshop to offer the Rio at a minimum of $100.XX. Be assured that they do not have to pay Visa for the rebate. Visa makes money simply by people using their cards. So someone who might be using an American Express card might be tempted to get a Visa card and utilise such a deal. Visa wants to give the $20 away to encourage Visa spending and further market dominance. Offering rebates is a common form of advertising sometimes often cheaper and more effective than conventional advertisement. This is a Visa promotion..and they take care of the tab!!!

As far as Pointclick is concerned, well their role is inconsequential. Sure they get a tiny % of each sale directed through their site but the difference between $99.95 and $100.xx is negligible......and a percentage of this difference is laughable. The reason that the minimum has been set at $99.95 is that it sounds a whole lot better than $100.XX....why don't you go to your local grocery store and check out some prices!

roprecht... How do you think pointclick makes money?

For that matter, do you honestly believe that Visa is giving away that much money for nothing in return?

Get a clue.

These are cross-promotional. That is to say that Mobshop and Visa get together, and they offer a rebate. Visa may pay for part of the rebate, but Mobshop does as well. Mobshop is paying to have visa customers use their site, and Visa is paying discourage the use of Mastercard and Discover, etc.

This is especially true of Pointclick (and ebates, or anything else like those.) Mobshop pays money to Pointclick because they get order flow from Pointclick.

I can virtually guarantee to you that Mobshop is paying both Visa and Pointclick. It's possible that it's a fixed amount, and not related to volume, or that it is diminishing with volume, but I guarantee that there's a payment being made.

That's not to say that Mobshop won't adjust the price, but you're already at the site, so there's a disincentive for them to pay Visa or pointclick for order flow they already have. Their margins are already thin, and I suspect the rebates will eat up any margin they have remaining. They might do it in the interest of generating customer loyalty, but there's clearly a cost to them.

Pennstate (or anyone else who might know), what phone number did you call? The one on the rebate form only gets me a recording to check your rebate status electronically. Of course, mine isn't in their system. I'd love to speak to a person. I too sent mine in November with nary a reply, and I even followed it up with a letter like 2 months ago.

A lot of work for $50...... where is it!*$%@!

arghh...
