Rio Carbon 5GB MP3 player at Overstock. $130+$3 shipping

The carbons have bad Hard drives. Couple that with the fact that RIO is out of buisiness, so no warrenty support. Expect it to die pretty quickly. Good player otherwise.

I've had my Rio Carbon for about 5 months (very satisfied with it), still running fine. I believe Rio is pullout out of the mp3 player busniess, however they still plan on providing support for it's users.

Dug this up on their website reguarding being bought by Sigmatel Audio...

Rio Q&A

1. What happens to the Rio brand products?
Rio brand products will continue to be sold in the same channels as before this announcement. Additionally Rio will continue to service our customers and handle warranties in the same manner as before.

2. Is my product still supported?
Rio customers will not be affected. We will continue to service our customers and handle warranties in the same manner as before.

3. Will the Rio MP3 players continue to be available to purchase in the marketplace?
Rio?s distribution strategy has not changed. We just released the Carbon Pearl 6 GB player, and our products continue to be available at major retailers in the MP3 space. We anticipate continuing to work closely with our retailers to insure we are maximizing our business together.

4. Will you continue to manufacture new Rio MP3 players?
Yes, we are continuing to manufacture products. However, Rio is re-working new product plans in the US as the transfer of technology assets impacts our current plans. As a result, we may change the direction for as yet unannounced products.
