I'd like to know as well. I used a program a while back to send via pic message mp3's from my PC to my cell (LG VX8300) and I could even determine where to start and end the MP3. Anybody know of a such a program?

Just download and use Audacity open the mp3 you want, highlight the section you want as your tone, save selection as mp3 or wav. Done.
You can even add effects and stuff. Fade in/out etc.

Too simple for words.

If you have a motorola, the motorola phone tools app lets you edit mp3s and wavs as well for ringtones.

If you are using a GSM phone, you can also use P2KTools ..easy to find at most
forums that deal with cell phone mods. But you really only need that or similar
to load the ringtone on the phone or to make backups of your contacts / phone #'s

Also any audio editor program can make whatever you want into a Ringtone.
You only need to know which format your phone wants .. Usually MP3 or .WAV
and you need to make it the proper time length. Usually no more than 20 seconds

Note: This app Does Not Work on a CDMA type phone, such as used by Verizon
Wireless or Sprint

i used to use bitpim and a bluetooth dongle.
very primitive ...basically toss in mp3 clips into a system directory. and it was very slow going.

There was this one software where you could run it, set the start and stop time of the mp3 you wanted as your ringtone, and then just send it from the program itself without going through a site online. Anybody know what I'm talking about?
