19" is the biggest I have personally seen mounted on a driveable civic (he claimed it was driveable...i took a look and was skeptical. This was at a car show. EK hatch.)

18" is too big imo. But it will fit with proper offsets and rolling of the fenders. It may still even rub with rolled fenders. And since the sidewall is very short, can you say bent wheels? A 215/35/18 tire is very short.

17" is stretching it, althoug the SCCA Speed World Challange series require all Touring classed cars to use 17" tires and wheels. Grand Touring (GT) uses 18" wheels and tires. On the track, bent wheels aren't that much of a problem. Street, yes. A 205/40/17 tire is pretty short.

16" is ok, but the costs of 16" tires over 15" tires doesn't go well with me. 205/45/16 is ok i suppose.

15" is what I prefer for most conditions, both on the street for dailiy driving and for race track/course uses. 205/50/15 tire size.

14" is good for snow as there are many tire selections for this size. 195/60/14 tire size.

Good points. He also needs to keep in mind unsprung/rotating weight and the performance issues which evolve from having a bit too much. That was a key decision for me between getting 16s and 15s.

I also suggest 195/50/15s over the 205s, simply because they're ALOT cheaper. But if money wasn't an issue, wider is better 🙂

195/50/15 is a lot cheaper than 205/50/15, $58 versus $73 for yokohama es100; $73 versus $133 for Bridgestone S-O3.

But, 205 has almost twice as much tire brand and model selection than 195. 195s have about 14 tire selections in the high/ultra/competition category on tirerack, whereas the 205s have about 53 selections in high/ultra/competition.

To me its not a matter of wider is better, of course it is when comparing 205/50 to 195/50, but there just isn't enough selection in the 195 size.
