The gunmetal or otherwise dark center with chrome edges, a la 1980's Trans Am wheels, are pretty slick.

Yeah, rims should be the same or lighter than the paintjob.

I disagree. White wheels look best on black and dark blue cars. Black wheels look best on white cars. Chrome wheels look good on black and dark green cars. Silver looks good on everything.

If by silver you mean normal alloy wheels, that's what I vote for. Chrome wheels are tacky. White makes you look like some punk teenager.
