Oh oh!!

BlackBerry Ltd poised for writedown as inventory of unsold smartphones swells to almost $1-billion

http://business.financialpost.com/2...s-swells-to-almost-1-billion/?__lsa=7ab5-7b53

1) Inventory from when BB10 was released should have grown. And it did. They sotck more than OS7 devices now.
2) If that $1B figure is accurate, an SEC investigation is warranted seeing how no information has been rleeased from BBRY regarding inventory levels. Also, if this information is true, it could just be pre releases stocking of the Z30.

And still not a new model non-camera phone to be found, bastards.
They're trying to sell phones (although they aren't doing a good job of it). I know some businesses/government are very protective and ban cameras on phones, but I can't see this being a very big market especially with the iPhone creating the BYOD mindset to IT.

With BES you can lock the camera from working.

Wow. Lots of false hope......Keep telling yourself everything is going to be A-OK with Blackberry.

fanboys are kinda like north korean diplomats. They will vehemently deny anything bad is happening even with all the facts thrown in their face.

Sweet... down 17% at closing. They announced results before closing -- werd.

4500 jobs lost. Wonder if they're going to be mostly at their headquarters in Waterloo.

Announcing this on a Friday, before the close, on the same day as Apple iPhone 5S and 5C launch. They are clearly trying to deaden the blow.

RIM took a 10% plus haircut on it's stock today

They had good earnings, but cautioned investors and analysts that the PlayBook launch was going to be expensive.

Analysts responded by downgrading RIM.

A write up from Seeking Alpha:
RIM falls to last place in JD Power's rankings:

And another interesting read:

I think RIM has about 18 months left as a major player in the North American market... What's really going to kill RIM is that if (when) they take another couple of haircuts on their stock price, and every time a CEO or upper management (or whatever the hell kind of job description/title they have... ) pulls out a BB, they're going to remember the stock price tanking, and associate BB's with failure, and they'll call IT and ask for shiny new iPhones or Android OS'd devices so they don't have to be reminded of RIM's fail... The JD Power's ranking is starting the ball rolling towards that end.

RIM is screwing up by throwing all that $ at the PlayBook, they should have sat out the tablet market for a few more months and worked on their phones first, tablets are a new exciting product category, but the bulk of their income is from phones, and the potential profits from a great selling tablet are nothing compared to what they could make by refreshing their phone line.

This thread is nearly 3 years old, and the OP was banned?

LOL

I have mixed feelings about RIM. Their new Z10 and Z30 look like solid, well made phones. It will also be a big loss for Canada if they fail or get broken up. At the same time they really failed to innovate. Especially with their marketing. They were trying to sell business phones to teenagers. No wonder it didn't work out.

I'm not surprised by the layoff news today. Especially with Apple announcing their best iPhone launch sales ever. Both they and Google are huge juggernauts. It's hard to recover market share. Personally I'd rather see RIM restructured into a smaller company than be bought out. God help them if Microsoft sinks their filthy claws into BlackBerry.

What's he complaining about then? It would be stupid to make a non-camera phone if IT can lock out the camera on a regular Blackberry.

The type of organizations that would have a major problem with a camera-equipped are the same type of organizations that wouldn't find a mere software lockout an acceptable compromise.

So, about the rollout of BBM to Android and iOS?

It's been delayed.

BlackBerry's big rollout of BBM for iOS and Android was due to start today, with the Android version planned to be available earlier this morning. Unfortunately, the app never made it to the Google Play Store, leaving those who've been waiting for it to arrive in the dark as to where it might be. The company has now announced that it is pausing the launch of both the Android and iOS versions of the app (the iOS app was scheduled to come tomorrow, and has already been available in some regions), as it sorts out issues caused by a leaked version of the Android app.

BlackBerry says that it has tried to address the problems caused by the leaked app throughout the day, but to no avail (allegedly, more than 1.1 million users have already downloaded it), requiring it to halt its launch plans. The company says that those that have already downloaded the iOS version of the app will still be able to use it, but it will not be releasing it to any new markets at this time. The leaked version of the Android app will be disabled.
