A video of Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper uttering a racial slur at a Kenny Chesney concert surfaced Wednesday.

In the video, Cooper vowed to "fight every n-----" at the July concert in Philadelphia. Cooper issued an apology Wednesday afternoon.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said Cooper has been fined by the team.

"We are shocked and appalled by Riley Cooper's words," Lurie said in a statement. "This sort of behavior or attitude from anyone has no role in a civil society. He has accepted responsibility for his words and his actions. He has been fined for this incident."

The NFL also issued a statement on Cooper: "The NFL stands for diversity and inclusion. Comments like this are wrong, offensive, and unacceptable."

Cooper, 25, has 46 catches for 679 yards and five touchdowns in 40 career games. He is expected to assume a larger role in the Eagles' offense this year after the season-ending injury to Jeremy Maclin.

"I am so ashamed and disgusted with myself," Cooper said in a statement. "I want to apologize. I have been offensive. I have apologized to my coach, to Jeffrey Lurie, to Howie Roseman and to my teammates. I owe an apology to the fans and to this community. I am so ashamed, but there are no excuses. What I did was wrong and I will accept the consequences."

An NFL suspension appears likely.

Will this set a precedent that every NFL player will be fined and/or suspended for using the N word?

My expectations of this thread would be that would devolve and many of you did not disappoint me.

The forum is just not sophisticated enough to handle this subject.

It reminds me of the definition of insanity.

Using a racial slur in this context while arguing with a black guy is something I would hope the majority of people have NOT done.
Probably not since the likelihood of having ones nose broken is pretty high. I just meant most people have used a racial slur in some form or fashion in their life.

BTW, just how many black people would go to a Kenny Chesney concert anyhow? I figure Riley would only have to have fought two or maybe three, tops. 😛

Oops, my bad. I'd tell you about it but I'd get banned. Even though I'd just be relating an incident, not editorializing.

I say the 'n-word,' a.k.a. the only word banned by our hypocritical society (and this forum) at every opportunity, specifically because it pisses off people who I don't give a fuck about, anyway.

Same thing with 'wise and beautiful woman.' You know what kind of woman gets super offended by that word?

A wise and beautiful woman. And I don't hang out with them.

I am not sure what your issue is. I don't know if you say these things for shock value or whether you actually believe and say such things outside the internet.

It doesn't matter because what you did post was offensive to every woman who would look at your post.

That's another word that's not allowed here.

Yeah, yeah, but she was much smaller than you. And you did have to pay for damaging her walker.

damn white man always getting the short end of the stick...

I don't know who the guy is, but if he gets playing time he is going to get his ass kicked. Hell, maybe even in practice

For once, I'd like someone who gets "caught" saying something like this to say "So what, I said it. Get over it, move on!"

I'm so sick of silly as shit like this getting played out like the rest of us really care. So what he used the "n" word. If a white person called me the "n" word, I probably wouldn't like it, but I wouldn't get all bent out of shape about it. I have bigger things to worry about than silly pettiness.

It is not banned in our society - It is widely accepted by large portions of our society as a perfectly valid way to refer to others.

Only certain sub-set of people are not allowed to say it.

Do you seriously not understand the difference?

Explain it to me.

One set of people us it as an insult, purposefully offensive.

Another group does not.

If you want to argue that it's just a word and that people should not take offense to any words, that is another story. Otherwise you just sound like a racist

So there is nothing wrong with the word itself, it just depends on who is using it?

Except black people take offense when white people use it in any context. So....
