The Federalist is a right wing political publication. They have the BEST writers, like Rich Cromwell, whose article is entitled All You Need To Know About Catalytic Converters Is They Shouldn’t Exist. It is listed under the category Big Government.

Rich is a Trump-level automotive genius. Nuggets of wisdom abound:

For this discussion, we only need to know the basics about cylinders. Inside them are pistons, and those pistons pump oil into the crankshaft. The more cylinders, the more pistons, the more power. But to generate and transfer that power to the wheels, it takes a little more fuel.

Pistons pump oil into the crankshaft?

Sweet Jesus, the stupidity of the author and the stupidity of The Federalist for publishing this crap merely because this untutored dipwad rails against Big Government beggars the imagination.

How do we fight this rampant stupidity and smug, ideologically based ignorance? These ignoramuses live in a hermetically sealed world of alternate facts. So sad!

I don't even...

Perhaps you don’t need a V8, particularly if your vehicle isn’t heavy or you hate America, but that’s for you to decide. It definitely shouldn’t be in the purview of those who supposedly represent us. To them, it’s simple: bigger engines consume more resources—in a vacuum—so they must be worse out in the wild. They incentivize auto manufacturers to use smaller engines, they test them in a vacuum and, voila, fuel economy is better. Success!

What's really bad is the part prior to this about V6 fuel mileage while passing...

Holy crap baskets.

The guy really knows jack shit about cars but he spouts a good Libertopian line of bullshit. From the article-

The truth is a little different. Catalytic converters became common in the 1970s in response to Environmental Protection Agency regulations, although they weren’t mandated until 2010.

Never mind that the regulations came in response to truly dangerous air quality in some American cities, like Denver.

In Libertopia, freedumb matters more.

Sad how a youtube-comment-worthy article gets published. Also sad how people correlate number of cylinders to fuel efficiency.
Wait a tick, why have I been putting high volume oil pumps in all my rebuilds if the pistons will just pump the oil into the crankcase?!???! (You know, pump oil from... somewhere into it).

A real conservative is a decent moral person with a much larger range of moral interests than liberals have. Things like concern for the environment, doing unto others as you would like to be treated, love and respect for others, concern for the safety of others, being clean, living purely, charity to others, these are very conservative values. Where did the conservatives all go? If everybody was a real conservative we wouldn't need catalytic converters to be mandated. Conservatives wouldn't sell a gas burner without one and they would be off gas as fast as their asses could go. We don't have conservatives any more. We have ideologues fueled by twisted and sick beliefs. The only thing conservatives are interested in conserving today is the capacity to conserve and add to their wealth at the expense of others. They have become sociopath leaches, an anathema to the moral good.

Just read the article. HOLY CRAP, I take back what I said about youtube comments, it was a little harsh on them. He actually thinks the fuel pump sends gas into the catalytic converter?
DPF systems do this on certain models of diesel engines (not into the cat, but into the particulate trap), but that's not at all what he's talking about.
Wow...

I'd like to correct Cromwell because I know for a fact that when the piston pumps oil, it doesn't pump oil into the crankshaft. The oil actually goes into the radiator and lubricates the radiator cone bearings, which then transfers power to the impeller pump in his driveshaft.

Everybody knows this.

Conservatives by definition yearn for the past status quo, like before the EPA started seriously policing pollution.

There's also a difference between what people claim to do and actually do. Eg. the christian right who are pretty much condemned to burn if there actually were a christian god.

It lubricates the Johnson rod.

Just more MSM lies trying to talk down to right thinking conservatives. Jalopnik posted this yesterday so I guess they are now part of the liberal MSM. Does anyone know a good conservative car site?

I read the Federalist all the time and saw this earlier. I am somewhere between a novice and amateur mechanic and I tried my best to spin it. Couldn't square it.

They have some good content and some very poor content. This is clearly the latter.

Aye, where are they indeed and they are proper Christian values too. Yet so many Conservative Christians are the antithesis of what they claim to be. We are stewards of ourselves, our families and others. That they are "Samaritans" doesn't matter. Someone is in need then aid them. If they fall help them up. Conserve the world we have and pass on one better than we found. Care for the prisoner and the widow, the poor and elderly. Uplift as we would have done for us. These are good things no matter what one calls themselves.

By their fruits shall they be known.

Holy heck... This is so correct... As to where they went? I'd propose that there are many still around, they just tend to mind their own business. Unfortunately this causes most of them to avoid politics completely.
