Well, Codewiz just got completely destroyed.

Where?

They found one place in stock that has it $300 cheaper. So yes it is 25% CHEAPER. But it isn't installed. Do you believe people buying iMacs are qualified to take them apart?

Are you seriously trying to say that $300 to install RAM isn't a ripoff? ...Really?

That said, Apple isn't alone in vastly overcharging for components.

I am saying all companies charge a lot and apple isn't alone. Is it a ripoff to me? Yes. Is it a ripoff for my mom to pay it? No. I have skills to save some money. My mom saved some of her time so she pays more than I would.

On top of it up until about two months ago, Crucial was actually the same price as apple.

Question their use of DDR3 more than their install surcharge IMO.

Only when you're talking about 4GB modules. Apple charges roughly 4x the typical market price for all other RAM upgrades. For instance, the current low-end iMac ships with 2 GB of RAM. To upgrade to 4 GB costs $100 from them, but 2 GB of RAM only costs about $25 these days.

You won't get an argument from me on that front. There is a surcharge to have them install it. But I would ask, how much would Best Buy charge to actually do that type of install? I bet around $50.

Whether that is ridiculous, that is another question. The thread was about the 2GB to 8GB upgrade. I don't think it is ridiculous in general. Ridiculous for me yes? Not for my mom.

Of course 8GB for my mom is ridiculous in general right now :)

If you live near your mom you should install it for her and save her some money. That is, assuming your mom buys a new iMac, you should.

Remember that when you buy a Macintosh, it's like buying a high end Ferrari. You pay for the looks and performance, not just to get "a computer."

to go from 2 gigs to 8 gigs you have to pay..... $1100!!!!!!!! :Q

Go find me 2 4gig dimms. Then come back and talk to me. it isn't like an imac has four dimm slots.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820145599

That's a $730 discount. What do I win?

Yeah, you don't win. Look again won't work in an imac.

It's sad how fast the l33t PC bros will jump without paying attention to ridicule a Mac.
