How can you put a hole in a bucket?

with a saw? with a drill?

Here's another one:

What gets wetter as it dries?

That's how you MAKE a hole in a bucket.

why are people in internet forums so anal about grammar? you know what he meant so leave it at that...

He picked up on it because it wasn't solving the problem- there's a very large difference. Why are people so poor at grammar?

But again, 'putting' a hole in a bucket is simply putting empty space into a bucket, and hence, does not solve the problem of making it lighter.

i think you people just enjoy being grammar nazi @ssholes.
you know what he is talking about, so leave it at that, no need to go into extreme detail over something so simple.

I agree pontifex.

> What can you put in a bucket

Before clicking in the thread, my answer was: something that would at least partially destroy the bucket, such as:

- an extremely cold substance that would shatter the bucket
- a very hot substance that would melt the bucket
- a strong acid that would dissolve the bucket
- a very heavy object that would rip through the bottom of the bucket (Got Neutronium?)

alarm clock.

Feed me and I live, give me drink and I die. What am I?

What walks on four legs in the morning, two in the afternoon, and three in the evening?

Fire and a human being.

Are you taking your riddles from the 3rd dark tower too?

Fire and a human being. [ baby, man, geezer with cane ]

Correct and no, these are older than dirt. I've read them in at least a couple of fantasy novels before King, possibly in Poul Anderson's books retelling Norse myths published a few decades ago.

It was kinda funny since those both were in there, like right next to each other. I just re-read that book like 3 days ago too.

EDIT: Blaine is a pain, and that is the truth.

:) they are a couple of the classics, probably why King picked them. I think they appeared in either Baldur's Gate 1-2 or Neverwinter Nights as well, but the Bioware developer may have swiped them from King.

I really should pick up the rest of the series, I've only read up through book 4.

don't bother. It gets too messed up in book 5 and 6 and 7 are just plain stupid.

Hydrogen.

Adding hydrogen would make it heavier.

 Care to elaborate on how it would get heavier? Assuming the bucket was sealed...

I'm guessing you're confusing mass with weight.

edit* I guess buoyancy has something to do with it too.
A sealed bucket with an internal vacuum has less mass than a sealed bucket filled with hydrogen.

Doesn't an alarm clock have hands?

To the helium issue. Since Helium wold replace air, it wold be lighter. To the "put a hole" in English put has many meanings one of which is to make something, so in English to put a hole in something is synonymous with to make a hole in something. To you so called grammarians, read the dictionary.

After more than 10 years, I'm pretty sure nobody cares.
