Riddle me this

I have recently watched The End of Suburbia.

Now being in amongst the average age of most AT'rs (early to mid 20's), where I'm sorting my life out with starting a family, purchasing a house, nice car, etc, etc.

What impact is this going to have on my future kids?

With the current developments of Solar, Tidal, Thermal, and all the other "alternative" energy sources in 30-50 years the future is looking grim - How can you bring up a family into the world knowing that they will not have the same resources available to them comparatively to what we are experiencing - what are your comments on this??

Oh come on, do you actually think it will be that bad, like your going to raise your kids in some post apocalyptic nightmare...things will be just the same as when you grew up, just with better technology. The rarity of our Natural resources is greatly exaggerated. Wake up. If anything, they will have it way better than we all did.

I don't think it's going to be a post-apocalyptic situation. My personal interpretation is that either the cities will become larger or more communities will become self contained.

The sharing of information will become a lot greater and easier to obtain (the best example I can think of is the recent London bombings where the news teams were using pics and videos from the public rather than reporters).

If oil production has reached it's peak (or near enough to it), then energy prices will only go up - which in turn will mean less disposable income, therefore luxuries and 'toys' will become obtainable only by those who succeed in their careers - rich become richer, etc

Well then in the least I would hope that would provide some motivation to those that keep dragging their feet.

By the time it happens, your kids will be adults.

Put solar panels on your house, buy property with a well. Live near the ocean where you can fish and have enough space to grow crops. Basically, become a survivalist. It's probably more than you need to do, but hey, you'll be ready for anything, right?

I'll tend to agree slightly on this - at the very least perhaps these skills could be introduced during compulsory schooling years (like basic first aid, morality, etiquette - but that's for a different topic)
