Pitch Black was pretty good. Chronicles...it entertained. It could've been certifiably 'good' with some work.

I dunno why Vin Diesel doesn't get more/better work. He's a pretty decent actor (if you're laughing at that, go watch 'Find Me Guilty'), he's got that wonderful menacing voice, and he looks like he could rip your dick off with a snap of his fingers. I find myself thinking...Arnold Schwarzenegger was a top action movie star, and this guy's not?

edit: I've never seen someone fail so hard at giving the finger.

I thought Riddick became supreme space pimp of the galaxy or something. What's he doing on that dump of a planet again?

Even though the trailer wasn't that impressive, I'll see it because loved Pitch Black.

Apparently that's his choice. He just doesn't make many movies. Closest other actor I can think of is Warren Beatty.

It does look he is suddenly in more things. I guess at his age he realizes he doesn't have many years left as an action hero.

I really like Pitch Black and Chronicles. I will go see this no doubt. About damn time, I was wondering when we would get another Riddick film.

Looked a bit too cheesy for me.

I loved Pitch Black. I wish they'd just do a sequel to that straight up. You wouldn't even need crazy CGI or Matrix-like super slow-mo' B.S. Just keep it simple.

does this follow the books?
is it a sequel to Chronicles?

or just some cash grab by merging pitch black and chronicles together?

Actually its not a cash grab. Chronicles pretty much broke even iirc. Vin Diesel took no salary for this one just a piece of the back end in order to keep it R rated because he felt it just couldn't be done right PG. Diesel does few films as noted previously and he is pretty much doing this for the fans.

Chronicles had a budget of about 100 million and this one 38 million, btw.

So they landed on a zerg planet?

Anyways where does this lay within the timeline of the series? Clearly not after he became leader of the necromongers.

IMO it looked exactly like Pitch Black. I mean, identical. People hunting a loose Riddick find out he's not their biggest problem when weird alien creatures show up. Now they all need to team together to get through the REAL problem.

It's the same movie all over again, but that means if you loved pitch black it should be good. Doesn't look any more/less "cheesy" than pitch black, but I'm not even sure what you mean by that.

loved pitch black, chronicles was alright - the kind of movie i'll stop to watch if i run into it scanning channels

It has a relatively low budget of 38 million for this kind of effects driven movie.

i guess they're skittish given chronicles barely broke even on a ~$100 million budget

So is Vin Diesel really gay?

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

No, but I'm gay for Vin Diesel! :awe:

Pitch Black was badass, I love that movie. It's also deeper than just an action alien flick, I liked how his character develops through the film. This movie looks great too, looking forward to it.

I must be the only one who really really liked Chronicles. Loved all the world building they put in there, has an extremely unique style.

What happened to the Chronicles? That was supposed to continue into a trilogy - entering the Underverse to get back Kyra. :colbert:

Yep it was great. I remember seeing the trailers for it and thinking how lame that looked - but then I saw it and loved it. Watch the Director's cut, the story has more depth.

I really liked Chronicles. Was hoping they would expand upon it. Or even explore the necromongers in some kind of pre-quel.
