Riddick: Positive reviews so far

Riddick so far has positive reviews, but "so far" means 8 of 9 reviews positive, with mostly lesser known reviewers. Still, I'm optimistic.

It's ironic that the lowest rated of the Riddick series has Julie Dench in it. I liked Chronicles of Riddick though nonetheless. I also think Pitch Black was good, and better than its 57% rating suggests.

What an ending to Chronicles of Riddick. Also liked Pitch Black. Have only seen a trailer for Riddick, but I hope the monsters in the trailer turn out to be cool.

You know... this past weekend, as I noticed there were no good, new movies to watch, I wondered why they didn't release Riddick. However, then I remembered that PAX Prime and Dragon*Con were both during that same weekend. It doesn't seem like a great idea to release a movie geared toward nerds/geeks when quite a few of them will be busy at some of the largest conventions. 😛

Anyway, I bought the nifty-looking Steelbook editions of Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick to watch (again) to get me back up to speed. I hope it's good, and I'm keeping my eye out of a Thursday early showing.

I liked them both for what they were, I really wish they would have made more of the movies than they have. I suppose the fast and the furious series is alittle safer cash cow for a studio compared to sci-fi though.

Oh, they finally decided to wrap up that series? The other two were at at least decent, I'm cautiously optimistic about this one.

The Chronicles of Riddick was a good "world building" movie; based on the trailer, the new one seems somehow smaller. Looking forward to seeing it, though.

I will see it no matter what the reviewers say. I liked the first two movies and Vin is super yum. 😀

I loved pitch black.
hated Chronicles of Riddick.

this is just a copy of pitch black.
it all boils down to the explanation as to why the ship cant leave the planet.
if it's plausible, then it'll be a good movie.

note: hangover II was just a copy of Hangover. not as good as the original but not that bad

Read an article on the movie that VD financed a good part of this movie, so if it hits pretty well he should manage to make some good bank.

Don't understand the hate for CoR but love for Pitch Black.

I liked CoR so much more because of all the world building. The Riddick universe is rich.

Pitch black was a good movie, but in the end, it was effectively an Alien movie

First two were awesome.

This one looks to small. The whole thing is just a few people stuck on a planet again? They already did that. Doesn't mean it won't be good though. Just seems they could have delved into the larger world they already expanded on.

thought the Riddick trilogy were books?
and pitch black was the prequel?

but wiki says otherwise.
so they're making stuff up as they go.

this movie would be better if it was billed as a sequel to pitch black
"aw shit. not again"

Chronicles had to grow on me. I went in expecting action and death, not a plot and good acting on all parts! When i first saw it I was WTF??? Then I saw it on DVD and said, ah, decent. So, I think the third one will be action. Good series tho.

Feel the same way, though it took a couple watches of Chronicles for me to appreciate it. Will definately be seeing this in theaters, my only problem is picking another movie that's out to make it a "double feature" day, so far The Family is my only other option and it looks interesting but not a must-see. Gravity already has some crazy good reviews but it comes out in early October so would have to wait.

Was completely the same way for me, saw in it theaters with friends and must have put my brain on pause going in expecting just killing and over-the-top action, but it turned out to be a lot more that I didn't get until seeing it more times. But hey, I also liked the Matrix Trilogy and how those 2 sequels completely laid out the worlds in that too.

Riddick got to keep what he killed and became supreme overlord of the galaxy in the last one. Now he's exploring the underverse and is back on the first films planet?

YES!

managed to make it to the end of the thread without reading spoilers :smug:

Loved both films.

only think is, in CoR, when the lord marshall yells to Riddick "give me your soul" and he shouts back "NEVER!" (massive guy-hardon), it got later dubbed back so he says a lame "fuck you" .. :/

i guess it was more badass like this? imho worst overdub ever. but still, loved both films, Pb better, the elemental (judi dench ) sucked, the grownup girl sucked, but vin diesel still ruled by sheer presence.

And i hope to get the same exact thing now.
