Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena

Looks awesome. If I can find time to play it, I will definitely be picking it up.

BTW, Gamestop has it in stock, since last week it seems. I'm stopping on the way home (Grrr, no Steam!)

I read on IGN that Dark Athena is a poor attempt to mimic Escape from Butcher Bay, so I may pass unless it's cheap. Of course if you've never played EFBB then it would be worth picking up for that alone IMO. It's tempting though, especially since they updated the graphics and whatnot, but i'm not sold yet.

Here's the review: http://pc.ign.com/articles/968/968316p1.html

Picked my copy on Saturday at Play N'Trade, thanks to Gamestop breaking the street date. I spent all weekend playing the remake of Escape from Butcher Bay and have barely started Dark Athena; DA is okay so far.

I'll definitely be picking up a copy when I get a chance. The Pitch Black mode looks to be able to recreate much of the fun I had back in the day with the AvP quake mod and the game is worth purchasing to me for that alone.

What's the deal with this? Is this just a really short single player campaign in addition to the complete Escape from Butcher Bay game?

This is exactly my question too. Now, I heard that EFBB was being remade with better AI and stuff but what about Dark Athena? My guess is it's going to have a medium-long SP campaign.

I started playing the Butcher Bay campaign last night.. they did a great job with the new visuals, it's completely modern and very atmospheric. I made it just past the infirmary at the very beginning, after Rust laid me out cold. 😛 I read about some mouse lag issues but I didn't notice anything drastic. The shadows are a bit funky at times and there are some shimmery textures, but generally it looks good.

My understanding is that Athena is a full length campaign, as well as Butcher Bay. Of course most people already played through BB so I think it's the freebie, the box cover seems to indicate that as well.

All the reviews so far are saying that the Butcher Bay remake is very nice, but the Dark Athena part of the game is mediocre at best. Having already played Butcher Bay, I'll probably pass up on this unless a bunch of people say that Dark Athena is really good.

I'll wait until it's bargain bin. That's how I got Butcher Bay. I was unaware of the Riddick game until I saw it at Big Lots. I picked it up for $7, and it ended up being one of the better games I've played.

Watched the G4 review last night. They sounded disappointed as AoDA eschews the stealth kills of BB for a more generic FPS run n shoot. If that's the case, I think I'll be disappointed too. I'd like to replay the improved BB though, I remember loving the hell out of it.

Yup, just read the review at G4. Seems like the re-made EFBB is fantastic but Dark Athena falls short, bunch of the gripe lies with the stealth implementation being gone, making it a plain run and gun shooter. Well, I'll be getting this title nevertheless...got to replay EFBB once much more with nicer graphics! 🙂

Too bad I have to wait for it longer, maybe it'll be released in India a month or so from now.

i just got it .. installing now .. i will go for the 2-day marathon and have a completed review up on Friday

Will be waiting for the review, happy gaming! 🙂

Here's a preview of the review

i love it

i am thinking an "8" for Dark Athena

it IS Riddick EfBB "continued"

it is not very long .. maybe 10 hours .. 20 for EfBB and DA combined
- i paid $50 for it Tuesday at Target and i do not feel ripped off EVEN though i played EfBB and remembered every detail of the story
