Hi,

I am a happy subscriber of Ricochet Wireless service thru Wireless WebConnect. I was wondering if anybody has ever tried simultaneous multiple logons with a single account? My girlfriend also has a laptop too and I was wondering if I just bought another Aircard 400 I could just use the same login information to gain access? Has anybody ever tried this? Thanks...

Back when Metricom was the sole provider of Richochet service, no login was required to connect to the network. Instead, authentication was done based upon the modem serial number. If the account associated with a given serial number was not paid, the modem was granted access to the network.

Although I don't know for a fact, I would imagine that modem serial numbers are still used to authenticate devices, even though user IDs and passwords are also required through WWC.

That said, why don't you call them up and ask?

Of course they are going to say that they don't support that. Why would they want 10 people paying one subscription price to use their network?

My dsl comes with a dialup account, and i know of like 20 people who dialup with it. When i signed up for dsl, i specifically asked them if I could do multiple logons and they said no. oh well hehe.

Assuming that authentication is indeed done solely based upon user ID and password, why would they care if you've got, say, 10 modems so long as you're only logged in once? Isn't that what you're trying to do? Or are you trying to do something unsavory by paying for only one account yet have multiple people use it simultaneously?

So much for attempting to be helpful...
