Ricky Williams from Dolphins retired?

Why should this surprise anyone. Williams has always done weird things through out his career.

It sure leaves the Dolphins in a lurch though. It will be hard to survice with Travis Minor as your starting RB.

I guess he got too intimidated with Shaq in town now. 😉

This sucks, grew up in South Fl, and always have been a Fin fan. Oh well. Hopefully I will still get some broadcasts up here when they play.

Why does this decision mean that something is wrong with the guy? I understand that all of us would love to be him, making all of that money, the fame, etc. but there are people in this world who just don't want that. This guy is taking the road of Robert Smith and getting the hell out of dodge with a nice chunk of change in his pocket and his youth still intact.

You cant come close to comparing Williams to Sanders in any way, or in the reasons why Barry or Williams quit.
Totally agree. Sanders quit because Detroit management wouldn't commit the necessary funds to keep talent - one of them being a good friend of his. Williams quit because he's "different" and by different I mean he'd rather be "free" to smoke weed than work as a professional athlete. Sanders is a HOF running back, Williams was on that track but he'll now be rememered as a pothead joke.

I think much of this "retirement" has to do with the fact that the pothead tested positive (again) and would've had to pay a $650K fine. Few people are given the opportunity to play a sport for a yearly salary most of us never earn in a lifetime and this dopehead throws it all away because he can't stay off the weed? Well F him. If he didn't have kids I'd wish financial ruin on him.

the worst is the timing, if he was going to retire he should have done it ealier when the dolphins would have a chance to replace him. Now its gonna be hard for them to do that

Testing positive for drugs 2 times in the past and a strongly suspected 3rd time this past offseason is not an assumption. :disgust:

I agree. Obviously he had put thought into this. Why wait until now.

hard to understand this one, but he has always been a bit off-kilter...

huge blow to the Dolphins though, at least they have good QB's to fall back on.....(/sarcasm)

Agreed. He has always been kinda weird. Great, great back though. Shame we won't get see anymore highlights of him.

He has failed atleast TWO NFL drug tests, one recently.
