Putting names on signs is stupid... so is putting all those porkulus signs up.

Not that I condone spending money on state entrances having the gov name on them - many states have them so I don't see how you can claim facism or ego maniac

Well no other Florida governor has done it. Then Rick Scott comes along and his cry has been that government overspends and he is going to make government smaller and save money. He states he is going to use his line item veto to trim the budget to the bone.

Then he goes and spends 9k on signs that the state didn't need just to put his damn name on them???

Hypocrite is the word or egomaniac.

PS: Plus I wanted to point out aside from this that Rick Scott is a idiot and a crook. Had a huge Florida corporation (Solantic Urgent Care Centers), signed it over to his wife, became governor, cuts taxes on Florida corporations, and changes Florida Medicaid or Medicare rules to allow plan participants to go to urgent care centers.:\

Something smells!o_O

Rick Scott is probably an asshole, but having his name on Florida's signs isn't that big of a deal. 9k on signs is nothing.

This is by far the least egregious thing he's done since getting into office.

Yeah, I'm surprised this is, I think, the first thread about him here. There's no "probably" about this guy being an asshole.

Edit: Nope, several other threads on this guy.

$9K in wasted money is still $9K in wasted money. If he's willing to waste $9K on signs, what else is he willing to waste money on? What do those other things cost?

He saved us billions in not taking the stupid choo-choo train, I'll give him the 9k. Hell he should probably have a multi-million dollar shrine built to honor him for being smart enough to stay away from the choo-choo.

Waste is waste, whether it's $1 or $1B. He may have saved FL billions by avoiding the train, but he probably would've done that anyway... so that has nothing to do with whether $9K in signs is waste.

Call it what it is... don't excuse it by bringing up other things.

Those signs are a complete waste of taxpayer money. Unfortunately, just about every politician wants to make sure to get their name out there as much as possible, even more so if it looks like "job creation" of some sort. I've seen these signs in a bunch of different states, yet you single out one governor for putting up the signs. How about pointing to all the other idiots doing the same thing?

I will say though I think Rick Scott is a crook, cares nothing for working class people, and is the Antichrist, he did one good thing and that was get rid of that darn train.

The point is that he paid 9k for new signs by taking down perfectly good signs that did not need changing. In other words a complete waste of money. (He then probably fired those last two workers in the Florida DOT because at $9 a hour they cost the tax payers to much money.)

It does seem like politicians spend 5% of the time legislating and 95% of the time either attacking the other side or talking up themselves.

did the money at least go to a Floridian company?

The FL DOT maintains it's own shop that produces road/highway signs.

Despite what NPR says, I'm pretty sure he's not the first FL gov to do this. I lived there some decades ago, I'm pretty sure Lawton Chiles and Bob Graham did it too.

So wasting $1 is the same as wasting a billion? Really? I guess they're teaching the funny non-linear math these days...

I'd like $9k please, especially if you're just going to blow it on signs which accomplish nothing.

Why? Does the government really need to advertise? It's not like we have a choice whether or not we use its services - that's kind of the point.

Because that's the fucking point of stimulus, to stimulate the economy, and get people's confidence up so the economy can get moving again.

This is $9k in a whole god damn state. For me $1000 is a lot of money, but 9 times that isn't a lot for the state of Florida. It pays for a few sign manufacturing workers to work for a couple weeks though.

Thats government in general, both parties, no need to be a partisan hack over something that all politicians do.
