Rick Perry cutting firefighting budget resulting in shortfall for fighting wildfires

Don't worry... Perry is just the latest flavor of the month. Just like Trump and the loony bitch. Both of them are gone or on their way out. Perry will be next to plummet as more people see his true colors.

I'm not so sure. To someone that doesn't look too closely Perry is handsome and confident and not obviously batshit crazy (unlike Bachmann) or obviously playing the whole thing for a publicity stunt (like Trump). Perry could easily take the GOP nomination-which is a scary thought in and of itself. Depending on how many people abandon the election process altogether (always a plus for the GOP) or their senses, it is conceivable that he could win, especially if Obama continues to play rope-a-dope between now and then.

Nearly half of the federal government’s firefighting air tankers are siting idle at a California airport, grounded by the Obama administration in a contract dispute.

“We wanted to sit down with them and ask why it was canceled and find a quick resolution, but they didn’t want to talk about it. They just said, ‘We don’t want the airplanes, have a nice life,’

So, did Obama cause Texas to not have the firefighting capacity they should have, intentionally, so that Texas would burn, thus hurting Perry at the polls?

FEMA disagrees with you but keep on making things up so Perry can look credible

Granting a major disaster declaration allows the federal government to help pay for the costs of reconstruction and direct aid to victims of the fires. Perry requested only Category B funding, which provides reimbursement for the same activities as the fire management grants the state currently is receiving.

Couple of flaws in your argument. In an emergency you can't go out and purchase equipment and supplies on the spot to handle it.

Second, assume your argument for a moment. If there is a short term large revenue requirement why not just send out a one time tax surcharge to Texas residents instead of asking the entire country to pay?

That would be completely out of character for those two-faced fork-tongued Repub politicians that want to pander to their base by screaming the small gov't/states rights/let's secede now/pay-as-you-go/only corporate welfare is good mantra while taking anything and everything they can get from the federal gov't to make their rich overlords ever richer.

Either that or the company failed to meet the safety requirements of its contract with the feds.

I'm waiting for Perry to pull a Bobby Jindal and start moaning and groaning about where are the Feds, where is the Fed money. His performances during the oil spill were classic 180 degree spins.

Good. Perry doesn't need the Federal government's help. Texas can take care of it by itself 😀

Isn't this a good thing for you cut at all costs folk. Apparently we are saving money by not operating these tankers.

Personally I think that he shouldn't ground them over a small contract dispute.

And maybe we can spend our way out of debt. :sneaky:

Sometimes, and ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If there were more supports for firefighting in place without the budget cuts, I think it's pretty easily argued that it would have saved far more money than was "saved" by cutting the budget. This is a case of tripping over a dollar to pick up a penny.

Would you suggest to a homeowner with a car to skip purchasing insurance for the car and the home? Cutting back on fire fighting essentially is the same thing.

Since I'll be busy later tonight, I'll also answer your response to this... some sort of idiotic argument again about cutting the budget and the homeowner should give up the car or something. That, in this analogy, would be equivalent of getting rid of all those homes and forests. If you have homes and forests, then you NEED adequate firefighting capabilities. That is, until the firefighting costs exceed the costs of the losses you would have without firefighting. That's a pretty laughable proposition.

Fire is actually a ponzi scheme; since you have to keep adding new fuel to keep the combustion subsidized, it is completely unsustainable socialism.

Maybe he'll halt the payment of taxes to the Feds so he can pay for it.

You think you own people? People fight back.

The federal government can just cut back on some other money that Texas receives. After all, we must cut somewhere for something that we spend on. If it's good enough for Hurricane Irene damage, it's good enough for Texas.

Hell, we need to cut 1.5 Trillion so just cut all of FEMA money out. If your state has a disaster, take care of it yourself.

It's simple; round up all the illegals, tell them you will give them American citizenship if they put the fires out. Then, when the fires are indeed out,... deport them.

YYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-HAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWW!!!!!!!!

If there was ever a state that deserved to burn to the ground, Texas is it.

Must really sting that they created more jobs than your community organizer. Can't have that, got to attack success and American job creation at the source!
