If you were filthy rich, what would you do?

I'd spend a huge chunk of my fortune on booze, babes and endless partying. The rest of the money I'd probably just waste.

Just goes to showing you that even with 4.2 billion to spend on treatments, research, medicines, the best doctors, etc., it's still not enough to beat cancer. 🙁
Her fortune should all go to cancer research.
Why research when a lot more money can be made in treatment? 😉

And therein lies the problem with private/capitalist heathcare systems.

Care to elaborate on where the problem lies? (Or even what the problem is?)

Well, they have no incentive to actually cure people, only to make money. If their income is set by the government then there is less chance of such corruption.

Not to mention the fact that only rich people can use private heath, and the poor just have to live with their problems, and therefore can only become poorer as a result.

Ok, you come up with the treatment, I'll find the cure, and we'll see whose product sells.

If you can come up with an expensive treatment, and at the same time torpedo any serious research into a cure, you'll make the most money, because the treatment would be a recurring expense that people would have to pay if they wish to stay alive...

are you stupid? there is plenty of reason to find a cure because there is big money in it.

And when that cure wipes out the disease in question (and bankrupts many poor sufferers of it in the process), what happens then? the drug companies just say 'job well done' and fade into oblivion? No.

a researcher or doctor paid on a medicore government scale has no reason to do anything.

Except actual empathy and caring for other people, something obviously foreign to you.

No they don't fade into oblivion, they move onto the next disease in order to make more money

Money is the greatest motivation for any normal person and therefore we pay people to do things. We shouldn't expect people to do things for simply compassion (communism failed remember) there has to be greater incentive.

being filthy rich you can do that, leave generations of profit, and donate.

I think I would do that too plus taking up a few classes/events here and there.

And just how does a private company "torpedo serious research into a cure" ?

In a free market anyone else can step up and come up with their own offerings. They can't squelch competition -unless- they don't operate in a truly free market (which is what exists now--not really a free market).

A purely private healthcare system (and economic market) would lead to quite the progression for humanity.

Canadians claim to have a cure but no one wants to research it because it uses a drug that isn't patentable, so no one will make money on it.

I am hoping you are trolling.

You simply hire them and don't apply their research, or you out advertise them.

R&R money is usually a huge risk.

I am not debunking it as I didn't read too deep. However; this talk is rampant in things like a cure for AIDS/CANCER/HERPES/ETC, Carburators that can give 50/60/400 miles per gallon, no need to pay taxes in the US, etc.

In the end, those with money and power can paint whatever picture they want...and they do.
