Where is the Elites in here that say the rich pay all the Taxes in the U.S.?

1-18-2005 Hatch to Plead Guilty to Tax Evasion

Federal prosecutors charged that Hatch, 43, failed to report his $1.01 million winnings from the CBS show, and did not report another $321,000 he was paid by a Boston radio station.

The penalty could be up to five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine for each charge. However, as part of the plea agreement filed in federal court, the U.S. Attorney's office said it would recommend a lesser sentence.

Hatch filed a false personal income tax return for the 2000 tax year by failing to report the $1.01 million.

Prosecutors also said that Hatch failed to report income he earned during appearances on WQSX-FM in Boston between January and December 2001.

Elitists? I dunno. I'm waiting for cwjerome to come in here and clarify that definition for us. I'm quite sure you're using it incorrectly. ;)

Speaking of "tax evasion" where are the U.S. corporations paying their share of taxes?

An interesting report by Citizens for Tax Justice & the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy would be a good place to start

In the report, they found that 82 of 275 companies CTJ examined enjoyed at least one year in 2001?2003 in which they paid no federal income taxes yet received billions of dollars in outright tax rebates. In 2003 alone, 46 of the companies paid no federal income taxes and in some cases, received tax rebates.

The companies, all on the Fortune 500 list, were profitable in each of the three years analyzed.

General Electric Co., which lobbies extensively for tax breaks, topped the list of corporate tax-break recipients, receiving nearly $10 billion in tax subsidies over the three-year period, according to the report.

Dude's a freaking moron. He was on the front page of newspapers and all the tabloids/tv tabloids there were because he won a million bucks. Then he goes and lies about it. What a retard.

I question this report. My guess is they are applying LNAAP (Liberal Not Accepted Accounting Principles).

Boeing, for example. They say:
2003 Profit: 1.069 billion
2003 Tax -1.7 billion

Boeing's financial statements (audited according to GAAP and sarbannes-oaxley, I would assume) says:

2003 EBIT: 550 Million
Income (tax)/benefit: 168 million

Link
And they paid in 861 million and 738 million the 2 prior years because of much higher profits.

Go to the end of their report, and they have the explanations. Essentially they take a bunch of prior year tax disputes and add all those credits into that year. They also look at a non-cash impairment charge as "profit" (which it isn't - you can't spend it). And they have R&D tax credits.

I believe they also dispute depreciation as a valid deductible and add that right back into their profit numbers. If you've ever had a basic accounting class you know this is laughable. So what are they proposing, that you can write off a major equipment purchase 100% in the same year? Man, corporations would LOVE that.

So anyhow, DM, don't believe everything you read :D

Did not report $1million plus winnings, where are the Rich Elitists that pay all the Taxes in the U.S.?

Dave, I'm confused. In one sentence you say he's a rich elitist. From your other threads, I know that Bush and his FFLs (and all the other acronyms you use) are Bush's buddies and he protects them from being brought to justice, kinda like Enron's Ken Lay. So which is it, is this guy a rich elitist who gets off the hook for his wrongdoings, or is he just some schmoe non-rich-elitist who is getting nailed on tax evasion? Or is Bush only allowing him to be prosecuted because he's gay and he wants to send those homosexuals a message about getting too uppity with this whole gay marriage thing? Geez, I knew I shouldn't have let myself run out of tin foil ;)

What are you confused about? You did good.

I forgot that he was the Gay guy. I've never been a Survivor fan. Thank you for helping me show that it doesn't matter whether it is the Richest Corporate or Political Bastages that get away with screwing over the rest of us.

How about bringing that research forward from say, 1992? Sounds like something I have been reading for at least that long!

One would think that any person would realize at this point that Richard Hatch is not of old money or part of the Elite, unless you consider the Elite to be middle-aged gay reality TV show winners. Making the whole spin of this thread as big of a joke as the OP.
