Woahhh I need to do some reading. Had no idea the pope was in trouble with the law.

The pope is nothing but a regular person, a sinner, just like everyone of us - capable of committing sinful acts just like the rest of us. I hate how the catholic church treats him like he's the second coming of Christ or something. 😛

same. i am amazed at how Catholics treat as a god.

I hope this sets the stage for the downfall of the Vatican. No church should have a sovereign state, even if it's just a city-state. But Dawkins' team does have a point in that the Vatican isn't officially given UN voting status, which may have some weight.

But seriously, this whole Vatican thing? Sack the shit out of that city. It's completely backwards logic to have such a powerful institutional system, worse in that it is a religion, in which the head figure of the religion may end up carrying the full diplomatic weight of a sovereign state. Thus that means this Head of State could largely have far more power around the globe than any other Head of State. 😱

Burn it. Let the hellish flames lick the walls of the Vatican, for they shan't stand any longer!
🙂

Anyhow. Seriously, I hope this does set a tone of loathing; even if it takes 50... 100 years, I hope this brings about the end of such a high figure and the Vatican itself.

It's another Dawkins attention whoring time grab.
Would like see the Pope wrestle an alligator if he is guilty of all this.
But this is nothing more than sensationalism.

As a Catholic, even I'd like to see something be done about all of this shady shit that's going on in the church.

The Pope has diplomatic immunity because the Vatican is a sovereign state. Dawkins won't be successful.

Still, it brings up questions as to why the Vatican is sovereign in the first place. It's the only religion to have a whole country to itself as a base of operations. Likely to avoid being prosecuted for nefarious deeds in the first place.

Countries are going to need to explore this on a diplomatic channel. The Vatican is actively harbouring people accused of serious crimes.

Noriega?

"I'm convinced we can get over the threshold of immunity," said Stephens. "The Vatican is not recognised as a state in international law. People assume that it has existed for time immemorial but it was a construct of Mussolini, and when the Vatican first applied to become a member of the UN, the US said no. So as a sop they were given the status of permanent observers rather than full members."

If correct this could get very interesting.

Time to clean house I say, start from the top down. Of course lets not start a witch hunt, proper justice should be applied.

The pope should be arrested for his insistence that the church preach that condoms are worse than AIDS..and that all forms of contraception are a sin. That has resulted in the deaths of millions of people in developing countries. Causing innocent deaths is a more serious crime than child abuse, no?

It's actually deliberate irony but you haven't reached that level yet. Keep trying and you might get there.

Wow. You don't even begin to understand the definition of irony, do you? 🙄
