Hundreds of would-be lemons cruise around southern New Jersey every day, juiced with transplanted engines, spoilers, body kits, decals, fuel injectors, and anything else that innovation allows to make a traditionally inexpensive import car into a unique and artistic machine.

the context of the quote would suggest the cars don't have them in the first place. but whatever..

it says

joiced means upgraded in the context of the sentence, i think.

Fuel injectors does look a bit out of the ordinary in the list when you put it against stickers, body kits, and spoilers. Those are all done on a regular basis. You don't need to mess with the fuel injectors unless you've done some significant engine work.

Manansala took a 2001 Hyundai Accent and made it into a sponsored show car that has been featured in magazines and movies and has won 29 trophies in car shows. ...has invested more than $25,000 in it.

Electric blue on the inside, outside, and even the engine, the interior of Manansala's car has been gutted and replaced with racing seats. A quick shift out of park thrusts a passenger back into the seat. Strapped in like on a roller coaster, the smell of burnt rubber fills the air after a loud peel out. That's just for showing off, but Manansala says his car is "more show than go," meaning that he doesn't try to race it much.

bwahahaha, this guy poured 25 grand into a Hyundai and it doesn't have any "go"! It's an automatic!!! hahaha

more fuel. When you start using forced air induction, you require more fuel to mix with the air.

Manansala, who is a mix of Filipino and Italian descent, refers to "hooked up" vehicles as urban muscle cars

Muscle cars. Oh please.

They don't come close to the traditional meaning of muscle car.

Manansala says his car is "more show than go," meaning that he doesn't try to race it much

"More show than go" meaning he don't race it cause with all that extra weight, it can't go. :p

Actually, that's a very good question, given that I've seen a lot of people install larger fuel injectors on their vehicles without knowing exactly what the benefit was. Basically, larger fuel injectors have the ability to supply greater volume of fuel to the engine. This, of course, is only of benefit if two things are true:

1. The rest of the fuel system has the capacity to deliver the improved fuel flow required by the engine. Larger fuel injectors will not do much if the fuel pump and fuel line can't transport the volume of fuel needed.

2. The engine has been modified to burn a much greater volume of air/fuel to produce considerably more horsepower than stock. (This means improved cam profile, cylinder head flow, exhaust flow, and improved intake. It does not mean an aftermarket air box with no other modifications.) Without those modifications, you're just dumping more fuel into the engine than it can burn with the amount of air available, and you (at best) will have no benefit.

$25K on a Hyundai?

I wonder if that includes the purchase price...

Even if it does, for $25K you could have a damn fast SS Camaro or possibly even a MkIV Supra.

Actually, swapping fuel injectors is quite common. Oddly enough 4.7 Dakotas/Jeeps/Durangos can use some higher GPH Ford fuel injectors.

The muscle car crowd typically defines a muscle car as having:
Big torque
V8
RWD
Straight axle (debatable, many don't consider the Corvette a muscle car)

The muscle car crowd can fully understand the sports car crowd, they just are a different breed of enthusiests.

I have different injectors. I went from stock 19lb inj. to 24 lb. inj. As soon as my sticking solenoid problem is worked out I will have to go even higher for a bigger shot.

Straight axle? As opposed to what other kind?

Independant. Like the Corvette's rear suspension.

Straight axle? Shouldn't that have been Live axle instead? Straight axle is what used to be in the front of antique cars wasn't it? You know for steering. In the 50's & 60's people would put straight axles on their 57 chevies and think they are cool.

Live axle is gocarts. There is no differential in a live axle.

A straight or solid axle has tubes that bear the weight of the vehicle above it. Examples are the ford 9", dana 60, chevy 12 bolt, ect.

I replaced my injectors in my truck to 100lb units. Fuel is good :D ( well, except to my wallet :) )
