i can't believe idiot parents bought a 350z for their kid. if you had the print version you'd see he was a white brat.

look at the comment section at the bottom, its the most comments i've ever seen on an article at mercury news😛 most arent very kind but they deserve it.
 
Too bad the kids took out two innocent people with them.

And since when does owning a 350Z make someone a ricer?

In the comments, there was talk about the kid driving 80 in a 25 zone. Speeding is one thing, but this is just ridiculous. The loss of life is a shame, but I am more sympathetic to the Batra family for their loss.
 
I say the children of the innocent couple who were killed should sue the parents of the kids. Stupid stupid stupid. You boy racers out there who think you're invincible, THINK before you get into your car. THINK before you decide to go above the speed limit. THINK before you decide to race your friend next to you. Don't be STUPID.
 
Hey, I have nothing against 350Z's. In fact, they're great cars. You can race with any car, whether it be a Scion TC or a Ford Focus. Don't blame the cars...blame the drivers. It's the same saying with guns...they don't kill people...people kill people. It's the lack of integrity that causes pain and agony. Last year, I knew of some people who raced along my main street in their 3 Series and E-Class. One guy was killed and one girl was in critical condition. At 100+ mph in a 50 zone, one of the drivers lost control and slammed into a cement wall.
 
oh, the kids are just from a nice part of town... spoiled brats is all. from the year book picture they printed he was white and bratty looking.
 
When kids die from driving too fast, it doesn't change what other kids do. They tell themselves that "He just overdid it, I know my limits, I know my car." And in a few months, the dead kids are forgotten anyway. I don't want to sound harsh, but that's the reality. And the friends of the dead kids never point to the behavior anyway, they only talk about how sad it is that Billy or Mary is dead and how it was a horrible accident. I can't agree cases like that are "accidents."

You can't tell young drivers anything. They are sure they have mastered all there is to know. Some are smart enough to know not to cross the line into the danger zone, some are not.

I think one of the great lifesaving devices coming soon is the GPS/event recorder which parents can wire into the car. Get the whole play-by-play of the kid's driving using a flash drive to collect the data. For parents who will take action when they find evidence of reckless driving, they could be saving their kid's life.

well there still is a difference. luxury and sports cars give the driver more confidence at high speed. the experience of speed is different because of the ease which the cars can achieve high speed. with some cars you can tell you are speeding, others, its so powerful you have to keep an eye on it. anyways it was no mistake considering they were going 80 in a neighborhood.

Such a shame; the pedestrian couple killed used to be neighbors of my co-worker. She knew about this because I guess her parents still maintained contact with the couple; people need to learn racing is for the tracks. =/

There is something to be said for keeping powerful cars out of the hands of teenagers. Yes, you can speed/race in any car. I got pulled over doing 90 in my 1983 Tercel. The difference is that 90 in my Tercel took some serious effort (and a long, straight stretch of highway - preferably downhill). I used the gas pedal as an on/off switch everywhere I went, the fact that I only had 60 hp at my disposal kept me out of any serious trouble.

No-one is blaming the car. But it's a very foolish parent who buys a sportscar for a teenager. Just like you wouldn't give a loaded gun to a 4 year old, it's not wise to give a car like the 350Z to a teenager.

you are absolutely right, when I was 16 I was being an idiot driving 65 in a 35 showing off to a girl in the car. It was dark and a truck had been leaking water onto the road, I didn't see a curve coming up and ended up rolling my car. Thankfully it was a Frod Taurus and I did hit the brakes quite a bit before we actually rolled so neither one of us were hurt. I learned my lesson and no one got hurt but looking back something like this could have happened to me. Now I am 22 and I drive over the speed limit but I pay attention and I don't drive reckless. Kids = idiots and unless they are really bright they are going to do whatever, putting any teenager in a sports car is a recipe for disaster.

If/when I have kids, the first car my kid(s) will have is a 1980's Volvo 240 station wagon. It'll teach a lot of good things. Patience (those things are slow), practicality (there's something nice about a station wagon that can haul just about anything), humility (they're just not cool cars), maintenance (they'll run forever, but you have to work on 'em). As far as I'm concerned, that's the way to go about it.

Exactly. Spoiled children don't understand the meaning of community. Parents need to step up to the plate and take control of their children, not children controlling the parents. The amount of spoiled little brats that I have seen in the last week is just astounding (airport). The parents are pushovers, and the children are whinny b1tches. Sigh...
