still.....that guy is a dumbasss....

You didn't save your engine because it would have been fine. Even at 60mph 3rd is still good although your engine will be spinning quite fast. Believe me, if it was gonna overrev it would have, you wouldn't have been able to catch it in time because by the time you notice it's already too late (unless you were really slow with letting the clutch out :))

wow... 91 accord let's you do more than 80 on 3rd?

my integra will let me do 85 at 8000rpm (redline)

Merging onto the freeway coming home from school requires that I get up to speed going up a grade. I usually shift at around 5k going up that incline. Much anything past 5200 or so and the power just drops off. So I could prolly do about 85 or 90 in 3rd before I hit redline. Never tried it b4.

Not this one... hahaha... I don't know if Honda already started putting limiters on the RSX but they shouldve because people like these were blowing their motors when it came out... i don't know if it was just because of stupidity... but they were quite unhappy that Honda did not want to cover blown motors in the warranty.

Celica GTS'... another high revving car did not have limiters as well when it came out... but Toyota still covered idiots who blew their engines.

A rev limiter keeps you from overrevving if you mash the gas, but will do absolutely nothing to save you if you redline it at fourth and put it back into third. The only way that you could prevent this is to have some sort of a lock on the shifter to prevent it from going into a gear when that would overrev the engine. A friend's mom's z24 has a lock that prevents him from skipping gears when downshifting, dunno if it has a lock that prevens downshifting if that would overrev the engine.

heh- this is why morons should never be given a close ratio gearbox. The RSX does have a rev-limiter, but no rev-limiter will save your engine if you misshift at redline.

A rev limiter will not save you from mechanical spin when you are downshifting. When you downshift, the engine must turn a higher rpm to maintain the same speed, the rev limiter is moot in that circumstance.

The problem with the RSX-S and Celica GTS is not the car- its kids who are either inexperienced or have poor technique. In the right hands, a high revving engine and close ration gearbox is magic.

Actually the close ratio gearbox is probably what saved him (if it did....), it didn't rev as high as it would have with a 5spd. I remember reading complaints about RSX-s gearbox being too closely spaced.. don't remember where though. Missing a shift when going upwards isn't bad but missing downwards? THat's not just a simple mistake.. not when it can blow your engine up. I don't get how he went into 2. If you pull it straight back... oh well, guess those complaints weren't for nothing.

I apoligize for the crude comments....I am still sort of new at this and always screw up the facts....

I have been driving about 100 miles every other day...with heavy traffic too sometimes...and have gotten the hang of it...(Driving a manual in stop and go traffic really blows by the way)

my '90 accord easily deals with 60mph in 3rd...then again..I am not about to redline it...

My main problem in starting out was that my dad screwed with my head by teaching me in his Rodeo..which WILL EASILY shift from 5th to Reverse...not a good thing obviously..

...and this was my first time on a freeway with a manual so I was VERY affraid of hitting Reverse, even though the chifter elastically returns to the center and there is a metal piece that prevents a direct shift. I guess the Noise played played a part in scaring me scitless too

I wasn't sure if If down was 4th or if I was too far right do I just instinctively headed in the other direction..

heh...at least I didn't put it into 2nd gear...now that would have made for an interesting conversation such as ...ah..nevermind
:p
