Sounds like you bought the white man's rice...

Sorry, but many "white people's rice" that I've tried are terrible compared to Asian (take your pick of anything in south or southeast Asia) brands.

Buy smaller bags and/or ask friends/family to recommend a locally available brand, or let them give you a scoop to try. I've been eating the shit practically daily for my entire life, and have learned to be quite discerning - snobby.

Jasmin Scented rice is pretty popular these days. I buy 18lb bags. I just store them in the original bag in the cabinet. The amount of water you have to determine per package of rice. I usually do 1/2 cup more, but will adjust if the rice is not the right constitution for my taste. Each bag is different depending on how old it is.

Current bag I use 2.75 cup of water for 2 cups of rice.

Jasmin or Basmati is what I use. Pot of boiling water, 1/2-3/4 cup of rice, 10-15 minutes, just check it every 5 minutes to see how cooked it is, drain in a colander, dump on plate.

You need to get a zojirushi rice cooker. Best dam rice cooker in the world.

I cook rice twice a week...about 1/2 cup (dry) at a time...to feed my dogs.

Microwave does a good enough job...I can't justify spending almost $200 for a rice cooker.
I've never liked rice...although I've eaten a shit-ton of it in my life.

You fought against people who eat rice. 😀

 Yep...and killed quite a few of them way back when...but I hated rice as a kid too...
If I'm out for chinese food, I USUALLY eat the rice...and I eat sushi and the rice...Hell, I'll eat "spanish rice," and even "rice-a-roni," (although I don't really LIKE them) but just don't care for "plain white rice," and generally don't eat it.

I bought some long grain sweet rice a while back for a change and when fresh it's good tho sticky after it's been refrigerated there is no other way to describe it but sticky as all hell. tastes good tho but not any good for fried rice.
