There has recently been a number of posts discussing and debating the term 'Rice' or 'Ricer'. Many of the debates seems to focus on the questions: Who is actually considered a ricer? What is actually considered rice? and Is the term 'ricer' or 'rice' offensive or not? Then it occurred to me that there should be a Rice FAQ.
FAQs have become a popular resource here at the AT Forums, and this FAQ should fit in just fine; albeit less important.
You can post your questions, answers, or both, and I will edit them into the FAQ as time permits (if time permits). Comments are welcomed.
The Rice FAQ. Version 1.01
I have taken the liberty to define the term(s).
The definition(s) are as follows:
Rice n. & v. 1. An import vehicle; typically from Asia. 2. An object that a ricer has modified which conveys an increased performance level that does not exist.
*Note that meaning [1] does not imply that only Asian cars can be 'rice' as in meaning [2].
Ricer n. A person who adds to an object items that convey an increased performance level that does not exist.
Rice rocket n. 1. An import motorbike. 2. Any import vehicle, typically from Asia.
Other terms:
Riced out
Rice out

Part I: Definition Questions
- Q. I just painted my computer case blue and black, and put in a window in, does this make me a ricer?
A. No. The definition of 'ricer' clearly states that the items must claim a superior performance. If the paint does not advertise a non-existent attribute of your computer, you are not considered a ricer for painting it blue and black and putting a window in it.
- Q. Can the custom paint of a computer case, by virtue of being custom and impressive, be considered a claim in superior performance?
A. No. If this were true, then the term ricer would become subjective. This of course assumes that there is no mimicking features of the painting. For example, if the case and paint mimicked a commercially available server, or a famous computer such as IBM's Big Blue, then it would be considered "riced".
- Q. I installed a neon light in my computer case, does this make me a ricer now?
A. Adding a neon light to a computer case does not normally cause the computer to become known as 'riced'. There is a common misconception that adding neon and other fancy lights to computer cases makes the person who does the customizing a ricer. As long as the neon does not: spell out a false claim, mimic another superior computer system, or present itself as a certain feature or component, when it is not such a component, then it is not considered riced. Many people confuse the term 'riced' with the term 'pimped'. Please see the 'Pimped FAQ' for more information about the term 'pimped'.
- Q. I see all kinds of mad ricers with stupid-a$s neon lights under their cars, you're telling me that the neon doesn't make their car riced, that's bull **** man!
A. I'm sorry to say but it does not make the car riced. It does not advertise a non-existent improved performance state. I'm sure there were many different attributes to the car that made it 'riced'. The addition of neon lights under a otherwise unmodified car falls under the definition of 'pimped'. Please refer to the answer of question #3.
- Q. Can a person be riced out?
A. This is a rather silly question, but the answer is yes. For example, if someone put an 'Intel inside' sticker on their forehead, or wore a superman shirt, etc. If the decoration is self adorned then we have a 'riced ricer'.
- Q. OK 1 question,does adding 20 case fans make you a *ricer* ? -JohnnyKnoxville
A. No. Because by adding fans you are improving the performance. -soapdish
- Q. does puting rice in your computer make it "riced" -Dark4ng3l
A. Before I answer your question, when you say "puting rice", is the rice you're referring to, the one defined above? If it is the 'rice' defined above, then I would have to say no. The reason why I say no is because whatever rice is contained in or attached to, would also become riced. This would be problematic. For example, if a riced computer is inside a house, then the house would be considered riced, then the lawn, and then the neighbors house. Eventually everything would become riced.
- Q. If I add a Folger's coffee can stuffed with styrofoam peanuts to the 'exhaust' port of my rearward facing cooling fan...does the fart-like sound that will result add any performance to my computer? What if I use a Mountain Dew can? Also, if said methods increase performance, will I be considered a Burger or a Ricer (or a Riced out Burger)? -SupaDupaCheez
A. No, no, and no.
- Q. what about someone who cooks and eats rice? Aren't they ricers too? -SuperCyrix
A. In order to limit confusion of terms between rice the food, and the rice defined above, we should now refer someone who cooks rice as a cook, or maybe exclusively a rice cook. If someone eats rice, then they should be called a rice eater.
