rice craving

lozina

Lifer
I have this odd craving to eat rice for lunch, but don't know any good recipes. I mean, I know how to cook plain rice but I just don't know any fancy recipes to give it some extra flavor.

Do you know any quick rice recipe I can do during a short lunchbreak? (I go home for lunch- never eat out)

edit: typo

use chicken broth to make the rice instead of water
or throw in a packet of instant chicken soup into the water
or use a packet of onion soup mix

What do you have in the fridge? You can always go for some simple stir-fry.

You can also add something to the rice to flavor it while it's cooking.

hmm not enough veggies currently for a good stir fry, plus I get a little lazy to clean and cut all the veggies. But I should really start doing that...

I really like this kind called bomba rice. Its these weird oval shaped rice granules, and they are really tasty. Not quick though. Just make a quick pot of twice as many cups of water as rice (regular white rice works best), get to a boil, bring down to low heat immediately after you hit boil, and let simmer for around 15 mins. Add butter and salt.

I oughta try that for dinner one night... wouldn't want to spend too much time during lunch though

mmm butter and salt. i like to add these to regular white rice along with some parmesan cheese. mmm.

quick and easy fried rice.

get some frozen mixed veggies. put them in a skillet with oil of your choice, let them melt a bit, put in rice, put in soy sauce for flavor. you can also scramble an egg into the mix as well.

fried rice.

If you are using a ricemaker then you can try steaming something on top of the rice. I believe there is a term in some asian language for this, but I don't recall. I think it's often done with sausage, for example.
