ive heard a lot of folks on the radio calling rice a "tom" (powell as well) over the last few years.
why is it a big deal now?

Many half-assed on-air personalities... if they weren't stupid or didn't say stupid things, you'd never hear of them. This way they are 'famous'... right before they drop entirely off the face of the earth.

there's been a few variations on aunt jemima over the years, she's been light skinned, to very black. Condi doesn't resemble her in any way, other than she may wear a french maids outfit on occasion to impress the president
