I really hope our next president does something regarding net neutrality in the right way that will shove a plug in the RIAA's butthole. Their crap is spewing everywhere lately at alarming rates.

How would that even work? If someone downloads an mp3, how would the software know if it was copyrighted or a free download?

The RIAA would want your mother's vagina to filter pirated content if they could do that. The RIAA basically would like their own yearly income tax on top of what they currently extort... err... make. I could keep on going...

I'm sure it will tell you it is copyrighted regardless. The burden of proof will be upon you to prove that it wasn't.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I think that this is a very practical solution that the RIAA has come up with. Just have virus software that they design, code and market scan for the stuff. I'm sure that it will sell like crazy.

On a side note, I'm wondering if the changes that they are requesting will also get rid of other viruses like rootkits and drm software?

Politicians as a whole don't seem to be very tech savy. Regardless, this is something that Congress would have to do. Which doesn't bode well for consumers given all the lobbying ($) that the RIAA does.

What moron would download & install this junkware? Or maybe it will install in the background when you play a CD like the rootkit debacle.

Does the video seem to jump around a bit at the 1:50 mark? His head kind of jumps around and his speech is clipped as if what he said was edited.

I know. It's wishful thinking more than anything. :(

It is certainly possible for it to happen though.

Some of those RIAA guys can look for a job at The Onion when the RIAA finally bites the dirt. Some of the crap they come up with is even absurd by The Onion standard.

Certainly NOT likely to ever be implemented, but anything that stops the rampant theft would be an improvement over the current "wide-open" system.

Ah hell. I forgot...ATOT thinks that stealing is OK...

Wait, so they want to make anti-virus makers include a check for pirated stuff? Yeah, like thats going to happen. "Oh, I want to screw my company by marketing a huge inconvenience to my customers, then they will surely buy my antivirus software again!!" Seriously, thats a great way to make everyone uninstall the OPTIONAL software (What, virus-scanners are optional... nooo.....)

What are they thinking? Do they really think this will stop the "Real" pirates. No, really they don't. Can you even imagine the semi-tech savey pirate looking for anti-virus software and reading "Now with NEW piracy scan, keep your computer legal!". The first words that will come to his mind are "Hell NO!". This is just proof that they really aren't trying to stop piracy, just get their next paycheck.

no, we don't think that stealing is ok. But we do take offense at the basic assertion by the RIAA that everyone is a no good woman raper that would sooner kill you then say hello. In fact, we take offense that they aren't doing things to stop stealing but instead do things to punish those that AREN'T stealing. We also take offense that they are trying to redefine what stealing is so that they can further pad their pockets (Copying a CD for personal use according to them is a crime that should be punish by death)

this WOULD NOT even slightly slow down theft, there would even be a decrease in acceleration of theft as a result of this. The ONLY thing that would happen is the common user would have to deal with crap given to him because he ripped his cd onto his hard-drive. Any real thief would avoid all software that implemented this search.

Ripping a CD to my hard drive is not "stealing", burning a copy of a CD to use in my car is not "stealing", in fact pretty much anything I do with media I purchase is not "stealing" unless I copy and give/sell it to someone else or in some way profit from it. Even then it is copyright infringment, not "stealing" but I am sure the RIAA already has you convinced to buy into their line of BS.
